As the days grow shorter, so do the eggs. It’s the rhythm of the season, my flock slows their laying as we have less daylight and the land leans toward rest.

But with each closing, there is also an opening. This winter, Faith’s Artisanal Apothecary will begin expanding into meat production! This is a step forward in offering more ways to nourish the community with integrity and care.

In a beautiful full-circle moment, the dear friend who entrusted me with my very first flock has passed the rest of her birds into my care as she establishes her new homestead in Kentucky. This feels less like an ending and more like a handoff in a long lineage of land-based living.

For those raising families with the seasons and for those dreaming of food sovereignty in the city, this is our reminder: every shift is a seed.

This weekend I celebrated another trip around the sun at Nolia, and what a blessing it was.

I finally got to sit down and taste the Madeira, the cocktail featuring my very own magnolia syrup. To sip something born of the petals I once grew and bottled, now carried through the skillful hands of the bar, felt like witnessing the apothecary’s mission come full circle.

Chef Jeff truly did his big one! Dish after dish arriving at the table, each more memorable than the last. I even tried beef tongue for the first time, crispy on the outside and meltingly tender within. Absolutely unforgettable! Mushrooms, small bites, and even sampling from friends’ plates made the evening feel like the kind of feast where food and company weave together into something greater than the sum of its parts.

I left full in every way, not just with flavors, but with gratitude! To have my magnolia syrup woven into the story of Nolia’s menu reminds me that the work of Faith’s Artisanal Apothecary is never just about goods, but about being part of a living ecosystem where land, craft, and community meet at the table.

Here’s to another year of nourishment, remembrance, and rooted living. 🌿

Another day with left me deeply inspired. We toured a Black-owned farming operation in Kentucky and learned about layer and meat bird production, hog and cattle management, and walked rows of vegetables that nourish both land and community.

What stayed with me most was the way each farm carried on while still holding full-time jobs. Farming here is not an isolated act, it’s a family endeavor. Where collards grown in one field meet mustard greens from another, orders fulfilled through collaboration rather than competition.

I had the chance to connect with one farmer about Booker T. Whatley’s “How to Make $100,000 on 25 Acres or Less,” a timeless blueprint still guiding today’s stewards. Standing on their third-generation land, I couldn’t help but dream of the day I’ll move to the country, raise children, and (hopefully) pass on a legacy they’ll want to continue.

This is the work of rooted living: cultivating resilience, weaving family into the soil, and building futures that honor the past. ✨

Day one at the State of Soil conference hosted by reminded me of home. The taste of my grandmother’s dressing and my mom’s tuna casserole carried me straight back to the table where love, memory, and survival were served side by side.

Black farmers carry that same legacy, holding our foodways, shaping the industry, and reminding us that agriculture has always been more than profit. It’s about heritage, community, and the hands that keep us fed. 🌱🖤

Some friendships are stitched together in unexpected ways. ✨

Itzel and I first met as teachers through Teach for America. Just two women learning, laughing, and (let’s be honest) trauma-bonding our way through the classroom years. Since then, we’ve stayed woven into each other’s lives, gathering often and rooting for one another in every new season.

She adores all things cactus and plant, so when she returned from her internship in Colorado, I made her a set of crochet cactus coasters as a welcome-home gift.

The funny part? She had also brought me back a gift…a prickly pear bookmark. Two teachers, two cactus keepsakes, one serendipitous exchange.

Now I get to celebrate her next big chapter, her wedding in Mexico this January. I couldn’t be more excited to cheer her on as she begins this new season of love.

The frozen persimmons my friend gifted me felt like an autumn blessing, sunset sweetness carried forward into the cool months. 🍂

I folded them into a recipe that lives somewhere between a soft loaf of zucchini bread and my famous chocolate chip cookies. The result? A fluffy, brown butter cookie that holds the warmth of the season in every bite.

For me, persimmons are the taste of fall: earthy, grounding, and fleeting. Recipes like this are reminders that our kitchens can be places of reimagining where old patterns of nourishment weave into new creations.

What flavors are carrying you through this turn of the season? 🍪✨

✨ Among the zinnias, I’m reminded that we are never tending to our gardens alone. The bee gathers, the butterfly rests, and together they remind us of reciprocity… give, receive, return. These blooms are more than color in the garden, they are invitations into rhythm, into relationship, into remembering that beauty and nourishment are always shared. 🌸🦋🐝

This Saturday at the farm stand, I’ll be bringing that same spirit forward with mini bouquets and seeds from my heirloom collection. You know, just little offerings to carry a piece of this garden into your own home. 🌿💐

🌱Harvest Notes from the Apothecary

Today’s yield: quail eggs still warm from the coop, a single strawberry kissed with morning sun, fresh stevia leaves, snacking tomatoes, and a zinnia bouquet vibrant enough to carry the season forward.

These are the quiet moments that anchor us. Not just food, but a way of remembering how to live slowly, and in season.

Drop a 🌸 if your hands have touched the soil this week.

Reese reminds me that companionship is a form of care.

These golden bites were made in the same spirit as my syrups and breads: slow, seasonal, and full of intention. Because our animals deserve rooted nourishment, too.

Crafted with ingredients from the garden and love from the kitchen, my Companion Provisions aren’t just treats, they’re a way to honor the bond between land, lineage, and those who walk beside us.

🌿 The farm stand will return next Saturday and will continue every other Saturday in August. This rhythm reflects the pace of seasonal living and the fullness of life on the land.

Late summer is a time of both harvest and preparation. Between tending the garden, crafting small-batch herbal goods, and stewarding our space with care, it feels right to offer our goods with intention and space to breathe.

With that being said, I’ll also be sharing moments from my garden journal. Quiet reflections, field notes and the behind-the-scenes work that shapes each offering.

For those of you growing, foraging, and crafting in your own corners of the world, I hope this rhythm encourages you to move at the pace of your values.

The elderflowers came from . They were tucked away, hidden in one of their market boxes like a whisper from summer herself. I steeped them slowly into a syrup, deep gold and fragrant, the kind that carries the warmth of a field into your kitchen.

That syrup met a bowl of wild blueberry pancake batter and turned it into something else entirely. Not just food, but intentional nutrition.

Scrambled quail eggs, creamy and bright, joined the plate. Apples, crisp and familiar, sliced and paired with peanut butter.

Nothing fancy. Everything sacred.

At Faith’s Artisanal Apothecary we believe the ordinary is a portal for intentionality. Each meal a chance to return to land, season and self.
