RipTide Shield™ Producer Update

We've received questions regarding the feed through IGR technology used in RipTide Shield™ and its relationship to New World Screwworm (NWS).

We want to be transparent.

Feed through IGR products, including those used in Shield™, do not affect New World Screwworm larvae developing in wounds.

New World Screwworm flies do not typically breed in manure. Females lay eggs in wounds and other openings on living animals.

However, feed through IGR technology can help reduce certain manure breeding fly populations and overall fly pressure on an operation.

Reducing overall fly pressure may help decrease irritation, rubbing, scratching, and other conditions that can contribute to skin damage and wounds.

RipTide Shield™ is designed to support:

• Healthy skin

• Healing support

• Seasonal fly management

• Advanced vitamin nutrition

• Copper safe, free choice feeding for cattle, sheep, goats, deer, camelids, and other ruminants

Shield™ is intended to support the animal and complement good management practices. It is not a replacement for routine wound inspection, animal observation, veterinary care, or recommended New World Screwworm control measures.

When the Monday blues ain’t a bad thing. 💙🐮

Nothing cures a case of the Monday blues like a fresh blue roan calf standing in the sunshine.

At Make It Roan, this is the kind of Monday we look forward to. New life, strong genetics, and another reminder that hard work and patience always pay off.

This little one is proof that some of the best things in life are worth the wait.

Today we lost our good buddy, Tim.

Tim was not only a barn cat but he was part of the family. He spent his days doing what cats like Tim are born to do keeping watch over the place, hunting when he felt like it, and reminding us that some of the best animals on a ranch ask for very little but give a whole lot in return.

He had a way of always being around when you least expected it and will leave a bigger hole here than most people would understand. If you’ve ever had a good farm cat, you know they earn their keep and then some. Tim was one of the good ones.

We lost Tim to bobcat fever, also known as cytauxzoonosis, a serious tick-borne disease in cats. The disease is carried by ticks, with wild bobcats serving as the natural host. Domestic cats can become infected from a tick bite, and once symptoms appear (fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing) the illness can progress very quickly.

We’re sharing this because many people have never heard of bobcat fever until it’s too late. If you live in an area with ticks and bobcats, it’s worth talking to your veterinarian about tick prevention for your cats, even barn cats that seem tough enough to handle anything.

Tim was tough, independent, and exactly the kind of cat every ranch hopes to have around. We’re grateful for the time we had with him and for all the mice he kept out of the house.

Rest easy, Tim. You were a good one, and you’ll be missed more than you know. 🐾❤️

Meet the crew behind Make It Roan and the ones who actually are responsible for these cattle:

Blayden, Makray, Makailey, and Rallston.

They didn’t start with a big master plan. The kids just wanted a few miniature roan cattle of their own, and it turned into this. They worked for every dollar that went into these bulls and cows with a little help from family and they take a lot of pride in that.

They’re the ones out there feeding, checking, and keeping up with them. Some days it goes smooth, some days it doesn’t, but they’re learning what it takes either way.

They were given dominion over these animals and they’re learning what that responsibility looks like every day.

The kids have been taking over feeding duty lately… and apparently we’re improvising now 😂

Couldn’t find the feed scoop anywhere, so a hat got promoted to the job. Whatever works when cattle are waiting.

Raising kids that don’t mind getting their hands dirty > doing it the “right” way every time.

Maybe we can get John B to change the logo!
