Beautiful night for some grazing ❤️ happy cows

Some of our best grazing happens right here — in the tree line. 🌳

The shade alone is a win for the cattle on hot summer days, but there’s something even more interesting going on beneath the surface.

The soil in our tree lines has never been tilled. No row crops, no compaction, no disruption. Just decades of undisturbed biology doing exactly what it was designed to do. And healthy soil means healthy plants. There’s a higher brix levels in the forages growing there, which is a measure of the sugars and nutrients available in the plant.

Healthier plants → healthier cattle → more nutrient-dense beef on your table.

This is why we’re so deliberate about where and how our animals graze. Every paddock tells a story about the land it’s standing on, and it matters for the entire food chain.

What questions do you have about how we graze? Drop them below 👇

Geeking out on science 🤓

A study by The BioNutrient Institute showed that cattle grazing on pastures with highly diverse plant species produce beef with significantly higher nutrient density, including more omega-3 fatty acids and beneficial phytochemicals.

The same study by indicated that soil health in the pasture was also linked to more nutrient dense meat.

For us, this means we are on the right track by focusing on biodiversity and soil health on our farm. We’re excited to keep going and keep learning!

Healthy Soil ➡️ Healthy Plants ➡️ Healthy Animals ➡️ Healthy Food

Happy from our front pasture — dandelions and all!

Our pastures are quiet right now, resting and growing ahead of grazing season. But quiet doesn’t mean still.

Above the soil, early pollinators are finding their first food of the season. Below it, soil organisms are doing the slow, steady work of building the foundation that will support our farm all season long.

We’ve learned that sometimes, the best thing we can do is get out of the way and let the ecosystem work. And when we do? The land gives back more than we put in.

That’s what regenerative agriculture looks like on an April morning. A pasture. Some dandelions. And a whole lot happening that you can’t quite see yet.

🎂 Help us wish Grandpa Dan a Happy Birthday!!!

Although we encourage him to take the day off, he probably won’t. 🤣 He always says, “If you love what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life!” And he certainly loves farming!
