A few years ago we planted peanuts to feed our hogs. The decision was a great one. Peanuts are a high yield crop, left our ground more nutritious and provided our hogs very nutrient dense food.

This year, we decided to do it again, with a twist. Lyle and Case are huge peanut butter fans and I (Allyson Jarboe McClellan) started making our own peanut butter to cut back on the unnecessary junk they add to it. I mentioned to dad (Walter Jarboe) the idea of bringing back the peanuts to benefit both us and the hogs and today he made it happen! We spend a few hours this afternoon planting peanuts.

Welcome to Lyle and Case’s peanut patch! How cool is it that we will soon be eating peanut butter from peanuts harvested from our farm? AND pork that have been raised on our own corn and peanuts!

There’s a saying that says “you are what you eat, and what you eat, eats” so knowing that we are not only giving ourselves the best quality food, but also our animals and customers is a great feeling!

Another day to get the family together and work the cows!
A lot of time and effort goes into making sure our beef are in the best shape, not only for our customers but for the wellness of the cattle. And we are so thankful for each and every person who took time out of their day and put miles on their car to lend a hand.
We were missing a few regulars, but we added a few tiny helpers this time. It’s so special to see the new generation of Jarboes learning and spending time together on Jarboe Family Farms ❤️

And so it begins- pasture season 2024! Here’s to sunny days and thick green hay fields ☀️🌾

Another successful day working the cattle!
We love having the extra hands to make the process smoother. But what we care about most is getting as many family members as possible together to spend quality time together ❤️

Another day of cattle working complete.

The weather hasn’t been cooperating very well lately and the extra 2 inches of rain last night made for a tough morning.
We left tired, muddy, hot and sore. But we were surrounded by family who drove over an hour to help us. What a great feeling to know we have family who will sink in cow 💩 up to their knees to help us and not think twice about it.
The work is done, our cattle are well vetted and we spent another day surrounded by family. That’s what Jarboe Family Farms is all about.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted, but we’re still here and busier than ever!

Some families have game night, others have Sunday dinner, maybe a trip to the beach to bond. But the Jarboes (and 3 McClellans) work cattle 😂

It was a nasty wet day, but our heard will greatly benefit from the health check/vaccinations that were given. Our top priority is to make sure we raise healthy cattle. And this is the best way to ensure that!

But the laughs, learning and shared time together makes cattle working day even better❤️

We hope everyone is having a safe and successful hay season! ❤️🌾☀️

Today we made plum jam!
13 pounds of plums were picked and plenty are still on the trees waiting for our next batch! Our professional taste tester Lyle approved.

We ended up with 15 pints & 12 half pints of jam, one jar of quick pickles, a very tired baby and lots of memories ❤️
