Today was the day when small projects and yard clean up takes place. Fallen branches and the lath that was falling off the side of the house was piled and removed. My Christmas present was installed at its location. Getting ready to start the next stage of my shed build was also started. Oh even took the time to fix the picnic table that’s been broken for a couple years.

Part of the farm life is wearing new hats and getting new skills. Everyone who knows me is I’m not mechanically inclined. But I can with some cussing on my part get my head wrapped around most tech. What better tech to add to a farm way of life than 3-d printing. Yes there is a bit of waste I’ll work on that but there are so many parts that are plastic that break and you have to replace the entire unit. Maybe I’ll figure out how to make those annoying parts on my own so I don’t have to waste something else.

Throughout the past spring, summer, and fall, I have been endeavoring to dispose of the wood pile to simplify lawn maintenance. However, my efforts were unsuccessful in attracting any interested parties. Now, with snow on the ground and temperatures below 10 degrees, someone has expressed interest in collecting a substantial section of the wood. As a result, we must now contend with the challenge of shoveling a path through the snow and ice to reach the pile. It is unfortunate that this task was not completed during the warmer months, as it would have been significantly easier and more pleasant.

"Alright, I’m throwing in the towel for the day. Still no yard access for motorized vehicles (yay, me), but hey, I did manage to shovel out the grain trough for the cows, so that’s a win! Unfortunately, the hay rack was a whole different story—got about halfway through before hitting a drift taller than my waist. I chipped away valiantly, then decided to embrace my inner philosopher: 'Screw it, I’m done.'

The calves seem pretty content hiding out in the lean-to, so tomorrow’s plan is to roll up the poly rope and tackle the feed rack again. Who knows, maybe it’ll magically get easier overnight. (Spoiler: it won’t.) Here’s to another round tomorrow!"

This little guy showed up Wednesday morning. I figured damn it one of the barn cats from my parents hitched a ride. Tonight was the first night I got my hands on it. Well one you get passes the long fur coat turns out it’s nothing but skin and bones. This cat needs a little something extra. However getting it that when you have one jack ass cat proves to be difficult.

Well I did not have this on my schedule for this morning.

Well I did not have this on my schedule for this morning.

Day two with Dad down: Ok, two more babies are on the ground this morning from first-time mamas. I did manage to tag them both and band the bull. The opportunity did present itself this morning with a small rodeo I managed to tag the one that got away yesterday. So officially 4 calves total all 4 have earings telling us who their mama is at the very least. We are at 3 bulls and one heifer. I will call that a win so tonight I shouldn't have any more babies with any luck

Baby chicks are far from babies they ain’t happy. Still can’t move them from the dog coop so that means dog coop up grade. This time it may seriously go side ways as it took a small army last time to set a pen up on the side of these old coops.

It’s apple season finally. I don’t have an apple tree of my own but have a neighbor who has three so they let me pick there’s. It’s triple digit heat wave at the moment this is what I risked. I’ll be making chips and applesauce for sure maybe some more pie filling.

Ok, let's do this! Here are the before and after shots of stage one. I'm not a fan of heights, but I put on my big girl pants and cussed under my breath as I navigated the moving platform to paint the big barn door. Time will tell if it needs a second coat or if we can move on to stage two.
