Miss Cuddles, I’m afraid you’re going to burst! This gal was two and a half years old before she settled the first time and gave us twin bucks that were mirror images of her with brown eyes. Last year she gave us triplets sired by Tex and we had our first lovely litter sprinkled with silver, two silver does and a handsome Cuddle clone buck. This year, she’s bred again to Tex (of course EVERYONE is bred to Tex because of his shenanigans) and we’re hoping we get a beautiful healthy litter again. Quads are possible judging my her size, or 3 big fatties. 6 weeks to go and she’s working to build her udder already!

Shed/greenhouse/milk parlor

Hey y’all! Christmas is over, time to think about spring kidding and milking, and seed starting! We are just 3 months out here at PP. With construction underway for our new goat barn with finished milk parlor, we are offering our greenhouse/shed that was our former milk parlor, for sale. This is a custom built 8’x12’ shed has clear greenhouse roof panels, white aluminum siding, 3 windows, steel exterior door and finished interior with shiplap upper walls, corrugated metal lower walls, and vinyl wood patterned flooring. Only one year old and stored inside of our pole barn. It is not insulated, but could be done easily. No delivery available, will need to be moved with a lift trailer/winch, skid loader, or other similar equip.

Sooooo, we’ve discovered we have more pregnant does as the result of Tex’s escape and breed-a-thon.
Cade’s Lil Farm SE Liberty hadn’t come to heat and started appearing wider, as did my retained spring doeling Perkins Pastures Honeybun 🙄. Not exactly wonderful considering NONE of these does we’re supposed to be bred to him! Alas, I will put my hopes into getting loads of SILVER DOELINGS March 3, 2023. Here’s the newest list of does bred to Tex:

Cade’s Lil Farm SE Liberty +V+V85
(Dark Cou Clair)
Humble Endeavors Miss Cuddles
(Light Buckskin, blue eyes)
Fairland Farm Dott Dynasty
(Gold and cream with silver and chocolate moonspots)

Tempting Willows Dust Storm
(Gold with moonspots)
Perkins Pastures Honeybun
(Gold and cream)

We also confirmed twin pregnancy in RZ Acres Mais Qui! Bred to Agape’s Prize AXL Rose (polled). We’ll likely retain this litter, unless there are multiple bucks.

Unconfirmed, but likely bred is Perkins Pastures Minnie, to CuatLilRedBarn Stallion, which we will retain doe kids.

In spring we will breed the remaining 2 yearlings, IlenesRascals Lunar Eclipse and Perkins Pastures Baileys NBrew to Stallion, as planned since he got ripped off from breedings this fall.

Aaaaand…NEW goat barn build is underway, as we sold our land tract with barn last month. Don’t worry, if it’s not complete by March, Mike said we can kid goats in the garage this year! 🤣🤣🤣

Stay tuned for more crazy happenings!

Whole herd test for CAE negative for this year!
We opted to not pull serum for CL and Johnes this year. After thoughtful conversation with 3 veterinarians we’ve decided that serum CL testing is only marginally accurate. We’ve only encountered abscess twice in our time raising goats-both times culture was obtained and determined negative by vet and U.C. Davis lab.
Since our herd is foraging on land that has had no other livestock other than horses (a decade ago), we felt comfortable excluding Johnes for the sake of keeping costs managable. Last year we tested for both CAE and Johnes and the cost was close to a grand for 13 animals. Unless my buyers want that cost passed on to them, we will forgo Johnes going forward. I’ll always be happy to pull blood or stool and send in for a buyer requesting that prior to the purchase of an animal, and cost for testing will be added.

I’ve been so lazy regarding this post, but a farm update is needed. Last spring Mike and I road tripped to Atwood Acres in KY to pick up the wee buck, CUat LilRedBarn Frosted Stallion, and eagerly reduced our herd by nearly half in order to keep the doelings he sired next spring.

Stallion’s dam is CH (pending) CUatLilRedBarn Frosted Elk
(CH CUatLilRedBarn Gonzales x SGCG Old Mountain Farm Shy Elk 5*M 2018 ADGA National Reserve Champion)

He is sired by CUatLilRedBarn Heathrow *B
(SG Old Mountain Farm Keidan Quinn +* B x SGCH Old Mountain Farm Sunday Drive 3*M)

With this pedigree, you can see how excited we were to take our herd in a new direction. Our other remaining buck, Flat Rock’s Texas Sage, however, decided early on to sabotage our plans. On October 9&10 he broke through 3 pastures to make his way into the doe barn. Ultrasounds last month showed he was successful in breeding Miss Cuddles, Fairland Farm Dott Dynasty, and Tempting Willows Dust Storm, the latter two, were supposed to be for Stallion 😖. Cade’s Lil Farm Liberty has also not come back into heat, so we suspect she’s also bred, and was meant for Stallion.
Now the only doe Stallion has gotten to breed is my favorite home bred doe, Perkins Pastures Minnie. At least he got to breed one lol!

Kidding scheduled to begin March 3, 2023 and we better see tons on SILVER doelings after Tex’s unwarranted shenanigans! Message me if you want a reservation 😉

Exciting news for the herd! We are pleased to introduce a special new foundation doe: RZ Acres Mais Qui!
Mae (barn name) is bringing us some lovely depth of body, WIDTH, smooth shoulders, brisket extension, and so much more that we’ve been wanting to improve in the kids we breed. She’s also an absolute love! Her dam: Valleys Edge Fleur De Lis 3rd Freshening udder pictured. As icing in the cake, she’s likely bred to Agape’s Prize Paradise City-polled (Agape’s Prize Axl Rose CQ *B x Agape’s Prize Praise Be) for March kids. We will likely be retaining the entire litter, unless it’s multiple bucks and we’re hoping to get a unicorn or two 😉.

We didn’t plan on doing it this year, but we ended up having a great opportunity and jumped! Last week we baited you with a hint of something to come. Thank you Atwood Acres- Nigerian Dwarf goats for the chance to add this beautiful buck to our herd!

Meet CUatlilredbarn Frosted Stallion!

Stallion has a stacked pedigree on both sides of his tree being sired by CUatlilredbarn Heathrow *B out of 3*M 3*G SGCH Old Mountain Farm Sunday Drive EEEE90, who was the 2018 ADGA National Best Udder for Nigerian Dwarf. Heathrow’s sire is Old Mountain Farm Kadien Quinn +*B who was the 2017 ADGA National Premier Sire and sire to 1st place Get of Sire.

Stallion’s dam is Old Mountain Farm Frosted Elk VEEE90, currently on DHI. Frosty is out of 5*M SGCH Old Mountain Farm Shy Elk EEEE92, who was the 2018 ADGA National Reserve Champion. Her sire is CH CUatlilredbarn Gonzales +EE86.

Needless to say, we are already for this fall to put him to work! We will be planning to keep several daughters from him next year.

I wish out pics were better, but we are still working on that!

What have we been up to lately? Watching these preggo bellies grow! Miss Cuddles (the very light buckskin) is first up, due in 3 weeks. This will be her 2nd freshening and we plan on retaining a doe if she gives us one. She’s bred to Tex, our Flat Rock’s silver buck. The new Simple Pulse milker also arrived and I’m now busy putting it all together! I’ll be selling the older model (2019?) if anyone is interested, please PM for details! Have a blessed day!

So, this love connection happened last night! Miss Cuddles has been a tough to breed doe, which is why she didn’t freshen til she was 3. So last night she was showing us signs of being ready and we moved her and Flat Rock’s Texas Sage to a pen, and both were very happy LOL! Hoping to get some blue eyed silver buckskins (does this time 😉)

Our first fall breeding took place last week! We said we weren’t going to do it-no more dead of winter kiddings. But we couldn’t help ourselves, Flat Rock’s Texas Sage (Dreahook SA Silver Key x Flat Rock’s Glen Rose) was ready to get to work and our yearling Perkins Pastures RD Patriot (Cade’s Lil Farm BD Rowdy VVV87 x Cade’s Lil Farm SE Liberty V+V+85) was ready to get buns in the oven! We hope to welcome our first litter of silver kids February 1 next year. Reservations open.

We had the great opportunity to participate in in of American Dairy Goat Association’s herd performance programs. Thank you Loretta Yoder and crew at Straightway Farm for hosting and inviting us to attend. This was our first year and we went in with zero expectations, just wanting to establish a baseline of where our herds strengths and weaknesses lie with the does that freshened this year. Bittie Acres RY Pandora was excused, as she had not freshened since last year, and Humble Endeavors Miss Cuddles freshened in February, and was mostly dry, and also sadly had a missing ear tattoo. We will remedy both of those situations for next year! Our scores went as follows:

Cade’s Lil Farm SE Liberty (2nd freshening 2 year old) +V+V85

Perkins Pastures All Riled Up (3rd freshening 3 year old) +VVV84

Straightway Farm RD Lucy Lulu (3rd freshening 3year old) +V++82

Caprine Acres PA Rocks Maglock *B +V+83

We are happy to have the experience this year and can’t wait to do it again next year, when we have 7 more does to freshen! 😬
