Growing up Lebanese-American, za’atar was the taste of home, even when home was two places at once. It was on the breakfast table, it came back in suitcases after summers away, and it was in the kitchen every time family gathered.

Za’atar grows wild in the hills of the Levant, and people across the region have picked it, dried it in the sun, and blended it with sesame and sumac for generations. No two families make it exactly the same way. That’s part of its beauty: it belongs to so many people, and each of them has their own version.

When you move far from where your family’s food comes from, you learn that flavors carry memory. A pinch of za’atar can bring back a whole kitchen, a whole summer.

That’s why Terranean Pita Chips started with small batches of za’atar. I wanted the flavors I grew up with to show up honestly on American shelves, made by women who, like me, carry more than one home with them.

We spent 10 hours on the road yesterday, driving to and from a retail buyer meeting to present our pita chips. We left after the kids got on the bus and came back in time for dinner.

We want to grow. We want our products to be available and more readily accessible to our customers, and we need to keep showing up to make that happen.

Did we have a Zoom option for this meeting? Yes. But everything is better 👏🏽 in 👏🏽 person!
