PBS and Ideastream featured local musician Gavin Coe on their program with a guitar we designed together back in 2020. With wood sourced from Gavin’s ancestors family farms going back to the 1700’s, to the unique and original design of the guitar, it remains one of our favorite builds to date. Following the interview about the guitar, is a performance inside the same 1870’s barn the guitar is made from with Gavin’s band Black & Coe.

This is a family heirloom build we just finished for Gavin Coe.

Made from cedar, redwood, black walnut, sycamore, pine, and a few other things, this guitar has been worked on by 9 generations of his family spread over 200+ years before it reached our shop. Gavin has had grandfathers dating back to the American Revolutionary War who have been a part of this guitar, and we are glad to see he’s so happy with it.

The top is the siding of his family’s house from the 1800’s, the headstock inlay made out of nails his Civil War Captain Grandfather hammered into the barn beam that is now part of the body along with the redwood bench his WWII era grandfather made in the 60’s, there’s a lot of history in this instrument.
