BLACK OAK IS BACK.

We took a couple weeks off.

One week for our son’s graduation.

One week for the Ramazzotti dinner.

But this Friday, we’re rolling smoke again.

Sweet blue co**ha bread from Bakery El Palomo here in Cloverdale, piled high with smoked pulled pork, pickled onions, house slaw, and our house barbecue sauce.

We were planning on doing minis only this week.

The usual buns weren’t available.

Bakery El Palomo, one of our awesome local mom and pop shops, had these beautiful blue co**has.

I called an audible.

There are only 24.

When they’re gone, they’re gone.

If you know you want one, shoot us a DM and we can set one aside.

One thing we’ve learned through this program is that compassion comes from all corners of our community. The team at Red Door didn’t hesitate at all when given the opportunity to help local seniors, and we’re grateful for their support.

Because of businesses like Red Door, we’re able to put real meals in front of real people and continue building a program that serves some of the folks who helped build Cloverdale.

Week after week, these senior dinners have become more than just a meal. They’ve become familiar faces, conversations, laughter, and something for people to genuinely look forward to.

This past week’s senior dinner was personally sponsored by Melanie Hall, and that means a lot to us.

Melanie has believed in this program from the very beginning. Not only as the director of the Senior Center, but as someone who truly cares about the people who walk through those doors every week.

In a world where it’s easy to do the minimum, she continues to push for something better for the seniors of this community. Better meals. Better experiences. Better care.

That kind of support matters more than people realize behind the scenes.

Today we want to give a giant heartfelt thank you to Cloverdale Wellness for once again stepping up and sponsoring our Senior Meal Program.

This is now the second time they have chosen to support the seniors in our community and that means something to us. In a world where it is easy to talk about community, they continue to actually show up for it!

Because of their support, local seniors are able to sit down to a warm meal made with care, dignity, and quality ingredients. Not leftovers. Not an afterthought. Real food made with love and respect.

What makes this special is that it goes beyond sponsorship. It is neighbors taking care of neighbors. It is small town community at its best.

From all of us at Black Oak Barbecue, and from the seniors who shared a meal, thank you for believing in what we are building here in Cloverdale.

Most people probably don’t expect to see smoked carrot demi glacé being worked on for a senior dinner in a small town community center. But that’s exactly the point.

We’ve been approaching these meals with the same mindset we would bring to any major event or dinner service. Fire, patience, detail, and respect for the people sitting down to eat.

These carrots were smoked low and slow, then finished with a carrot reduction built from the vegetables themselves. Not because anyone asked us to. Not because it’s the easiest way to do things. Because we genuinely love the craft and believe our seniors deserve food made with care, intention, and pride.

This whole experience has reminded me that barbecue is bigger than trends, social media, or lines out the door. At its best, it’s about people. Community. Taking something humble and giving it your full attention.

We’re doing this for the love of the game and for the people who helped build the communities we all get to enjoy today.

Last week’s Senior Dinner was made possible in part through the support of Todd Lands and his company Todd Lands Construction

Todd has been part of Cloverdale’s leadership for years, serving as mayor and now as vice mayor, but more importantly staying present in the everyday life of this community in a real and consistent way. What stands out most is not the title, but the willingness to continue showing up where it matters and staying connected to the people who live here.

For our third week, featuring Grandpa’s Ribs, this support helped strengthen the foundation of what these dinners are becoming. A place where seniors are not just served a meal, but are given a moment that feels intentional, warm, and rooted in respect. Each plate carries more meaning than food alone. It carries care, consistency, and the reminder that this community is paying attention to its own.

Support like this allows us to keep building this effort week after week with stability behind it. It ensures that what we are creating is not temporary, but something that can continue to grow and hold value for the people it is meant to serve.

We are grateful to Todd and Todd Lands Construction for being part of that support and for continuing to stand behind the seniors and the community that raised all of us.

Last Thursday we continued something special here in Cloverdale.

Our second Senior Dinner was served through the community, with the same goal in mind, to make sure our seniors are cared for, seen, and able to enjoy a proper meal.

Dahlia & Sage Community Market stepped in to support that.

They not only sponsored meals, but also provided the potatoes and green beans that helped bring the plate together, making it possible for more seniors to participate through the center.

This is not about giving things away.
It is about making sure people are included, with dignity and care.

Dahlia & Sage understands that.

They have always been a place that feels connected to this town, and this was just another example of that.

We are grateful to have them alongside us as this continues to grow.
