A couple weeks ago a friend messaged me and asked if I’d be interested in participating in a bake sale…my flesh wanted to respond quickly and say no. I had spent a whole two days in the kitchen around thanksgiving and baking for an upcoming graduation, but I paused and said let me think about it. After a couple of days of sitting on it and thinking about it I responded and said yes, I’d do it and asked for the info to sign up. This morning I got up, already mentally prepped, got into the kitchen and got to it. In the middle of mixing my first batch, within a split second, the Lord reminded me the purpose of this gift and talent…
When I had first started baking, I asked God how this could glorify him, how would my baking glorify God? I heard the Holy Spirit say, people will come to know the love of God through your baking.
Through the years I have baked for friends, for church staff, for teammates at work. It always makes my heart happy to see the joy in their faces when they see their treats or cake. But today, today was a bit different…as I was ready to pour the first batch in the pans, I felt a holy nudge. I looked at what was in front of me, ingredients, cake batter, and pans…and then revelation- this, this is why, this is how! This bake sale is on to support a church’s mission trip to Uganda. I’m just a vessel, the hands to help in some way or another. I may never know who decided to pick up a carrot cake loaf for purchase in support, but that small purchase is priceless to those who will receive, experience, and feel the love of God through his Word on another continent! I am so thankful I said yes, doing this was humbling and a great reminder of the purpose he has placed inside of me.
