Scotchbriar Prime Tsunami

Are you looking for an excellent herdsire this fall? Let me introduce you to Scotchbriar Prime Tsunami. Prime is a two year old buck who has success in every corner of his pedigree.

His dam, Scotchbriar Prima Donna is the 2016 ADGA Nationals 1st place intermediate kid. She has her milk star and has achieved success in the show ring on multiple occasions and is known for her amazing progeny in the Scotchbriar herd.

In fact her daughter, GCH Scotchbriar Violet Lilly’s Luv is Prime’s Sires Dam. You may very well recognize her name, Violet has made a name for herself in New York State, being a finished champion and 2x NYS Fair Grand Champion. She turns heads wherever she goes, going multiple times best in breed and producing multiple successful daughters.

Prime’s sire, CH Northern Sky Tidal Rendezvous seems to draw everyone’s eye. His general appearance and great dairy strength has earned him multiple Best in Show Wins over the years. His daughters have already demonstrated that same excellent general appearance with capacious, socked on udders.
If you take a look at Prime he has finished champions and milk stars on every side of his pedigree. Prime has given me multiple promising daughters, including one who just won Reserve Grand Champion at the June show in Syracuse, NY.

If you want a buck who is going to give you production, udder attachment, depth, width, and upstanding pasterns with strong feet and legs, this is the buck for you. Sometimes I can get caught up comparing myself to others- and I’m willing to bet many other people do too. I try and remember though that progress is relative to your own herd. I try not to obsess over show wins and remember that I am ultimately competing not with others but with myself!

These two photos are a great reminder of this. A kid I had born on the farm in 2019 vs a kid born in 2026. I think the photos speak for themselves- but just look at the improvement in rump angle, length, and flatness of top line to name a few.

Everyone’s path is going to look different and success is going to look different too. Just remember to keep learning and keep improving and love your animals along the way ❤️

I want to take a moment to talk about this buck.

Scotchbriar Prime Tsunami is a lovely buck I purchased two years ago. When he was a yearling he became very ill. The vet diagnosed him with lumpy jaw, and I was told his odds of survival were not good. Prime and I fought that lumpy jaw for months, and we won. The affliction set him back in his growth, but despite that he successfully bred nine does last fall.

But really this post isn’t about Prime. What I want to talk about is the reason Prime survived. This buck lost so much weight that at his worst he weighed only 70 lbs as a yearling. You could push him with your pinky and he would fall over.

This buck survived because of my goat community. I listened to my vet, and I hit up every goat mentor I know. Hannah Lovgren, Andrea Hamilton Larry, Kelley Doolin, Kathy Kelley, Jen Funk, and more. I took all of these women’s wisdoms, all their tricks and tips and threw everything at Prime. I can’t say what worked, what supplement changed the tides, all I know is he lived.

I know sometimes we get caught up in goat drama but I think it’s important to remember how strong we are together. We are a community and when we ask for help, and work together, great things can happen. ❤️

Attending Nationals this year I had the goal, the hope really, of making the cut with one animal. I was hopeful that Scarlet would be able to make top 20, but I wasn't sure. This is our first ever national show and I wasn't sure how we would measure up.

Well I am so pleased to say that not one, not two, but THREE of my girls made the cut!

Paintedsparrow's PT Aloy made the cut and snagged 17th in her junior kid class despite being in an awkward growth stage. I can't wait to see how she continues to grow and mature.

Paintedsparrow's CH Nymona placed 13th in her milking yearling class! I am telling you this girl is going places!

And my homebred finished champion Paintedsparrow's Scarlet Lettr managed to get 15th in an incredibly competitive 5-6 year old class against 32 goats!

Floored, stoked, and so proud of my girls and so so glad I decided to spend the money and time to come out here. So much thanks to the ADGA show committee for putting on a wonderful show and so much love to my goat community!
