Unfortunately at times farming throws things at you that you wish you could avoid. This little guy was born yesterday to a first time calving mama. We’re not sure if she accidentally stepped on him or one of the other curious cows did, but unfortunately we noticed yesterday that he had what appeared to be a broken leg. We called the vet and he said he’d be out in the morning. We quickly made a makeshift splint using paint sticks, gauze for cushion and vet wrap to immobilize the leg the best we could. To our surprise the little guy got right up and started nursing. The vet came already this morning and confirmed that yes it was a break, but if there is such a thing as a good break the place where the break is he see’s high 90’s success rate of healing.
The pink wrap was our makeshift splint and the white is the wrap and splint the vet applied.
We’ll keep these two separate from the others for now to allow for rest and healing. 🤞💓
