Lunasi Land Trust

Lunasi Land Trust Lunasi is located on 50 acres in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania. Founded in 1972 by back-to-t

Lunasi was founded with the purpose of preventing depletion of the land and improving its life-generating ability. It is a small community which has lived together, raised children, and joyfully cultivated awareness of our interdependence with the land. Lunasi has been gardening organically for 43 years and in 2013 the community decided to become a Permaculture site - giving birth to Endless Mount

ains Permaculture. Lunasi has hosted the Summer Solstice Pie Festival every year since 1974 - a beautiful event bringing people together to enjoy music and volleyball, celebrate friendship, and eat lots of delicious pie!

Amazing how something can be simultaneously boring and interesting, all at once. That said, this is a good overview of what is happening with h**p regulations in the USDA right now.

The 2018 Farm Bill (pdf) directed USDA to establish a national regulatory framework for h**p production in the United States.  USDA established the U.S. Domestic H**p Production Program through an interim final rule.  This rule outlines provisions for the USDA to approve plans submitted by States...

Here is a short update from us and what we plan to be working on this Spring, up on our blog.

Double Apple Pie Recipe

We love pie, this one is really good!

This recipe is a keeper Gently spiced with cinnamon, tinged with brown sugar and loaded with apple butter, it’s as deeply flavored as an apple pie can be, all covered with a buttery wide-lattice top crust Although it’s at its most ethereal when baked on the same day you serve it, it’s still wo...

Congress allows farm bill to expire; strands programs without funding

This is disgraceful. Of all things that the government should be prioritizing, funding to farmers is high on the list.

LYONS, NEBRASKA – Congress allowed the 2014 farm bill to expire yesterday, Sept. 30, and took no action to renew or extend it. In response, Anna Johnson, policy manager with the Center for Rural Affairs, said the organization is disappointed that today, Oct. 1, 2018, has come without the passage o...

Regenerative Agriculture is a system of farming principles and practices that increases biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds, and enhances ecosystem services. It aims to capture carbon in the soil and aboveground biomass (plants), reversing current global trends of atmospheric accumulation and climate change. At the same time, it offers increased yields, resilience to climate instability, and higher health and vitality for farming and ranching communities. Via www.terra-genesis.com 🌱

Lunasi is returning to its roots with a new (to us) organic tipi and lodgepole pine poles treated with linseed oil. We shall forever hope to be known by our neighbors as “The Tipi People”. If you are ever lost and trying to find us, try asking for that or “the hippies” 🙂 most people who came to Lunasi in the 1970’s will remember that the tipis were the main dwelling and hang out place across the creek in a field in the woods, with a cattail-roofed kitchen, as the old farmhouse on the road was pretty rough then. This new tipi is gazing out over the valley next to our pond, and will make for a great place to sleep this summer.

Elderberries are an amazing health tonic! Propagate yours now.

It's time to harvest Elderberry cuttings for propagation! Here are a few tips to get you started: 1. Choose a young, pliable branch from your tree. 2. Cut the branch into segments, leaving a set of buds at the top and bottom of the cutting 3. You can then encourage root growth by placing the cuttings in a mason jar with water or both water and soil. 4. Place in a sunny spot for a few weeks and voila! Join us at our Gifts from the Forest Workshop at the Omega Institute May 11th-13th to learn more about the bounties waiting for you right outside your doorstep: https://goo.gl/JadUSp

🌞Happy Solstice and Merry Pie Day, Lunasians! Lots of Love from Nora and Rose, and Harry and Allen!😘🌹 We will be thinking about y'all and missing you from our own Solstice fire tonight. 🥧💓
We are beyond excited to be carrying these beyond organic duck eggs from our friends over at Lunasi Land Trust! Harvested from the happiest ducks around, who are pasture raised on only certified organic feed. Duck eggs offer an overall higher nutritional value compared to a traditional free range chicken egg. Full of healthy fats, these rich eggs are high in Omega-3s, B Vitamins, and have about 9 grams of protein each. They can also add a fluffier texture to your baked goods and their dense yolks resist breaking when cooked over easy. Come introduce yourself to the benefits of ducks eggs!

We were so delighted to read that Lunasi is a "budding permaculture site." We have been meeting regularly with a group or neighbors, reading The Resilient Farm and Homestead together, and buying fruit trees, seeds, feed, etc. Deja vu from 40 years ago! Budding here on our little Kentucky farmstead, too! Time to plant lettuce soon. . .
I heard of this place. ;-)
