Vaccinium myrtillus- bilberry! You maybe have noticed sometimes the huckleberry bushes are smaller (about 12 to 16 inches), the branches are greener and more upright (a lot like grouse whortleberry), and the berries are deep purple and very fragrant. You’ve got Bilberry!

The huckleberries seem to be really variable, within a patch and even on the same plant. I’ve seen bushes with totally ripe berries, some still green feet away, and others with ripe and unripe berries. What an interesting year!
