Nasturtiums are an edible and medicinal flower and herb that are high in vitamin C and have potent anti-viral and antibiotic properties. They have the ability to help build strong blood by promoting the formation of blood cells. Nasturtium leaves are known to be an effective remedy for bladder, kidney, and urinary tract infections. They also are highly beneficial for nervous depression, constipation, indigestion, sore throats, sinus infections, and eye and skin health. Nasturtium also works as an expectorant and can help break up congestion in the respiratory passages during colds, flu, and bronchial infections. Nasturtium is high in sulfur and is especially good at helping to increase energy and prevent brain fog. The flowers and leaves are also known to stimulate the tiny capillaries of the scalp making it a great hair-growth supplement. Nasturtium leaves have a peppery taste similar to that of arugula. They can be juiced, chopped and added to salads, or steamed like spinach. The brilliant flowers make a beautiful addition to salads, wraps, smoothies, and soups. Nasturtium leaves and flowers also make a delicious medicinal tea. Fresh or dried leaves can be added to hot water and allowed to steep for at least 20 minutes, sweeten with raw honey if desired. Crushed leaves and flowers can also work as a natural topical antibiotic for cuts, scrapes, blisters, or wounds. Simply crush the flowers and leaves in a little bit of coconut or olive oil and place on skin. Wrap lightly with gauze to secure and change twice a day for best results. Nasturtiums are easy to grow straight from seed indoors or out and are a simple, but effective way to include this healing flower and herb into your diet.

Share Holder message:
I'm putting together application for share holders for Prairie Girl Farms and am asking for shares to be paid by April 15.
The cost is $350 for the season or $400 if you want it delivered. For those who want to pick it up, there is a new drop off place being created at the community market in Columbia Falls (at O’brien Liquor). The day of the week is still to be determined.

A few share are available for those who would prefer to work 35 hours (to be completed during April and early May). Now is the time to confirm for those who have expressed interest in this.

A share will give you 15 weeks of a box of goodies, starting around the first week of July. The boxes will become heavier as the season progresses and will include organic vegetables, fruit, flowers, herbs and occasional baked goodness.
Let me know if you’d like the form emailed to you.
Cheers,
Jean

As we prepare for the ninth summer on 5.2 acres near Glacier National Park, the time has come to offer the opportunity to be a share holder in Prairie Girl Farms. In exchange for $350 you get a box of fresh, organic fruits, vegies, herbs and flowers, once a week for fifteen weeks, starting around the first week of July--'averages around $20/week. $50 extra gets it delivered to your door.

The boxes will become heavier as the summer progresses and so do the harvests. Flyers and application forms are in the works and we are busy ordering non-gmo seeds to get started in the next month or two in our neighbors' greenhouse. A couple shares will be available for folks who would like to trade work in the gardens this spring.

Owner, Jean Flynn, grew up on a wheat farm near the Sweetgrass HIlls and farming is in her blood! It is with great happiness and love that we introduce the new old girl on the block: Prairie Girl Farms. Tours available by appointment. Special thanks to Norman Hathaway for excellent logo design!
