Stopped at Soda Pop Junction yesterday, and it wasn’t our first time! Located at 141 Mill St, Lynnville, TN. It’s just a short, yet beautiful drive from Columbia, TN. This place is full of charm; as you walk in, it feels like you’re entering a gateway to the past. There is wood everywhere with ice cream shop style barstools, and old advertisement decorations on all the walls. They tell you to seat yourself, and you try to find the coziest booth or table you can. The one we chose was unique - one side was a booth seat, and the other side had some old-time movie theater seats.
After we were seated, the waitress came over pretty quickly and seemed very nice! I ordered the half-pound double bacon cheeseburger, my wife ordered the fried bologna sandwich, and we also got two kids’ cheeseburgers. Everything seemed like it was à la carte, so we ordered two baskets of fries on the side - one curly and one steak fry. It was nice to have options of different kinds of fries. They also had shoestring fries, but we didn’t think we needed three baskets of fries between two adults and two kids. Normally, when ordering kids’ cheeseburgers, places don’t give you options, but she allowed them to add whatever toppings they wanted, which was really nice. This place was really busy, and I was surprised by how quickly the food came out.
At first glance, I wasn’t sure about the burger. It looked like it had frozen patties due to the uniform shape, but after the first bite, I was very happy! You could tell it was cooked on a flat-top grill with lots of grease. This burger was juicy, flavorful, and I’m very certain it was over half a pound. I was only able to finish half of it. The fries came out perfectly cooked - both were great. I’m not a big steak fry person, but these were really good. I did get to take a quick bite of my wife’s bologna sandwich. I will say it was pretty thin. She doesn’t like thick sandwiches, though, so it was perfect for her. It had good flavor, but I personally would not order it. The girls loved their burgers as well.
The one thing I didn’t particularly like was that there was obviously a roof leak, and they had buckets on the ground. Pretty sure when I went there maybe a year ago, it was the same situation. Overall, it was a really good experience. Our total came to $53.50, not bad for a family of 4! The food was really good, and the atmosphere was exactly what it should be for a little hole-in-the-wall off the beaten path. It’s what I would consider a greasy spoon. Would I go back? Absolutely. This is one of those places that I keep going back to. Was it the best burger I’ve ever had? No. Was it a good burger? Yes, it was! The nostalgia in the place and just the atmosphere makes it a destination that’s not that far from home!

Went to a lavender festival over in Hohenwald, TN this weekend and tried SKYE’S THAI KITCHEN . Unfortunately, I can’t tag them on here, but it was a great experience! We tried the Pad Thai, and it was enough for 2 adults and 2 kids to munch on for a day of adventure. The people were very friendly and welcoming. The food itself was very good; it had a good salty/savory to sweet balance. I am not big on sweet things, so toward the end, I felt like it was too sweet for me, but it was an excellent dish. The one thing I will say is the chicken seemed like it was lightly breaded, or maybe coated lightly with cornstarch and then fried - it wasn’t what I was expecting, but it was really, really good! Will I go back? Definitely, I want to try the rest of the food. I wish we didn’t have such a big day planned, or I would’ve tried more options!

You, yes you!! Go check this place out if you are in the area. A very short drive from Columbia on the outside of Mount Pleasant you will find a gem of a diner, The Juicy Egg!!! Walking in I was greeted by a table of what I assumed to be regulars. They said hello, even though the staff hadn’t came from the back yet. If you’re looking to support a real family owned local joint this is the place! I’ll start with a bad before the good salt shaker was a little dirty, as well as the menus themselves. The rest of the place looked spotless! The waitress was nice and seemed shy, but she absolutely answered every question I had. The food prices were great, and everything about this place I absolutely loved. Yes, it’s a little out of the way, but not for a day off. Since I was the only other table in the restaurant, I asked the waitress if they were always this busy….she replied that during the week it’s usually just regulars and then on the weekend they seem to be a lot more busy. I also asked about the cold case that normally serves cakes or pies. She said that it’s normally full but the person that makes it had a doctors appointment the day they normally do it which you made it feel that much more local and family owned! In the world that we’re living in it was nice to be in a place where life just kind of slowed down and you could see a real family atmosphere in a business! A lady walked in with a small child not sure her affiliation but the kid wanted I believe a pickle, and she said that he had to go to the back and talk to one of the ladies he came out with everything he wanted !If you happen to have a day off in the middle of the week, it’s definitely a destination that you can go to and have a pleasant meal. The food was good and they also served their burgers and the full menu all day. It was really hard for me not to get the jalapeño popper burger they had. This is a local destination well within the Columbia area that deserves your business. Let’s help support a local restaurant, with some hard working people! Based on the sandwich I had “that was the special” I can almost guarantee the rest of the menu is going to be amazing! Would I go back absolutely I plan to. I’ve got to get that burger!

Just tried a new restaurant called My House and had a unique experience! I took my wife here after being invited by the owners and was impressed at first. There was an area outside where they allowed me to pick flowers for my date. After coming inside they had the tables set and presented us with the menu. There was a clear language barrier because the menu appeared to be in a mix of English and another language. We just ordered one of each so we could try everything! After ordering one of the owners put on a movie for us so that we could have dinner and a show. After two minutes, the movie was interrupted by one of the other owners who proceeded to create a spontaneous song talking about our date. We both found it very amusing and genuine. The other owner must’ve been the chef because all we could hear was yelling and some banging in the kitchen and it sounded like plates crashing everywhere. The first course was hotdog bun, and some fries. The second course was some kind of vegetable salad, pizza, tacos, assorted fruit, and some donuts. A couple concerns was there was a dog in the restaurant that just came right up to our table. Another issue was the food. It tasted like plastic. The owner that sang to us also drew a portrait of us on our date, which I found absolutely wonderful. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience with my wife. As always, would I go back? Absolutely, but I think I’ll give them a couple years to work some things out.
