What a whirlwind! We started out Show Me Show Off with the Junior Buck Show - our first ever buck show!
Stratton Creek C Striking Gold earned 3rd/3 under Dr. Paula Reisdorff and 2nd/3 under Karen Smith. Karen commended him on how long and stretchy he is. Striker did an amazing job for his first time in the ring.
Cade's Lil Farm WW Legend earned 3rd/4 in both rings and was commended on his length. He was a little unsure about the ring, but did a nice job walking and setting up for Clara.
Bramon Acres R High Spirits earned 2nd/4 in both rings and was commended on his depth of barrel and his dairy skin. He also earned Reserve Champion in Ring 2 under Karen Smith!! 🥳
You will notice there are no pictures of Legend or Spirit (my goal is to take some at home and get them posted) - that is because they were in the same class and I showed Spirit in both rings 👀 This was my first time showing goats and although I was super nervous, it was a lot of fun. I also showed Striker in Ring 1 because Clara needed a break from the long stressful day we had. I appreciate everyone who checked in on her - it was a nice reminder of the sweet community we have in the dairy goat world. 🫶
We continued on Saturday beginning with Showmanship. Clara earned 6th/11 under Dr. Paula Reisdorff, who said it came down to minor nuances of knowing the scorecard and body parts. Clara said she forgot where the stifle was and felt like that cost her points. She definitely knows now and will continue to learn and grow!
Bramon Acres SK Silver Glimmer wasn't competitive again. She needs some maturity, which makes sense since she was born April 15th, 2025, which is probably later in the season than most of the goats that she competes against. We will probably retire her from this year's show crew and try again next year with her 2nd freshening. Although, I have been so pleased with how her and Kalluna have bonded. Usually Kalluna doesn't like sharing stalls, but I caught her cuddled up to Glimmer several times.
Mathiot's Paradise PB Kalluna earned 6th/8 under Dr. Paula Reisdorff. The doe ahead had a body that blended more overall. She was commended on her dairy capacity. She also earned 4th/8 under Karen Smith and was commended on her fluid of motion, the capacity of her barrel, and the capacity of her mammary system.
Bramon Acres S Fabled Trinket earned 4th/4 under Dr. Paula Reisdorff who said she needs more maturity. She also earned 3rd/4 under Karen Smith who commended her on her ease of motion, dairy strength, and openness of ribs.
Bramon Acres R Velvet Dreams earned 9th/10 under Dr. Paula Reisdorff. She also earned 6th/11 under Karen Smith 🥳 She has started to become more comfortable with being at shows. I really think as she does and as the weather warms up, she will start placing better.
Overall, it was a great weekend and we really loved both shows. I think next time, for Clara's mental health and my own, if both happen on the same day again, we will have to choose only one.
We will have a break from showing this weekend and then we will be off to Neosho for the Boots N Buckle Youth Show and the Spring Fling Quad Doe Show! 🥳
