My chickens have beautiful nesting boxes. Clean bedding. Nice, cozy, private little spots designed specifically for laying eggs.

So naturally… they lay them in the roost. 🤦‍♀️🐔🥚

And when one of these dumbos decides to lay an egg WAY back in the corner where I can’t reach it? Apparently my golf ball retriever has officially become farm equipment. 😂⛳️🥚

Nothing goes to waste around here—including random things we find in the garage.

Please tell me I’m not the only one whose hens refuse to lay where they’re supposed to. 😂

Am I the only one who does this? 😂🌱

A friend gave me seeds for a variety of green beans, and they ended up being some of the most delicious beans we grew all summer.

Then I realized I only had a handful of seeds left.

Cue the panic. 😂

So yes… I planted green beans WAY later than I normally would. Not because I’m trying to get another big harvest, but because I’m hoping I can grow enough mature pods to save the seeds and have plenty to plant next year.

Sometimes the crop isn’t really about what you’re growing today — it’s about making sure you can grow it again next year. ❤️

Now we wait and see if I can beat the frost. 🤞

Anybody else ever plant something JUST to replenish your seed stash?

Apparently somebody forgot which group of hens he belongs with. 😂🐓

Caught this boy hanging around the hen house with the ladies he’s NOT supposed to be with… and the second he saw me, he took off running home like he knew he’d been busted. 😂

Roosters, y’all. There is never a dull moment around here.

I found this 1958 Kerr canning cookbook while cleaning out my grandmother’s house, and I knew it was something I wanted to hang onto. ❤️

There’s just something about opening an old cookbook and seeing the recipes women were putting up for their families almost 70 years ago.

So when the figs started coming in, I decided to try one — Fig Pickles.

And y’all… this is a PROCESS. 😂 According to the recipe, these figs have to be boiled for 10 minutes, THREE days in a row before they’re finally canned.

I’m following the old recipe and trusting the process, but I have so many questions. 😂

Have you ever had fig pickles? And more importantly… would you eat these?

09/14/2026

First time pressure canning… and I have questions. 😂

I decided to start with butternut squash, and this is the finished product.

So, those of you who know what you’re doing—does this look right? Is this what you’d expect canned butternut squash to look like?

And the real question… would you eat it? 😂

I genuinely want to know. Tell me what you think. 👇

Most gardeners don’t know this trick… 👀

If you grow figs, you know the struggle—they NEVER seem to ripen at the same time! 😂 I’ll get a few today, a few tomorrow…and meanwhile I’m trying to keep them fresh long enough to have enough to actually preserve.

These figs have been sitting in my refrigerator for 9 DAYS in a sealed mason jar using my Mason Genie—and look at them! 🙌

This little gadget has become one of my favorite finds during harvest season. I can pick things as they ripen, seal them up, and buy myself a little extra time until I have enough to put up a batch.

Want to try the Mason Genie? I linked the one I use in my bio! 👆 (affiliate link)

Will this experiment actually work? 🐓👀

If you’ve been following our chicken integration saga, you already know things haven’t exactly gone according to plan. 😂

So we’re trying something new…

One rooster. Three older, established hens. And absolutely no guarantee that any of them are going to cooperate. 🤣

Maybe he’ll find his flock. Maybe the ladies will put him in his place. Or maybe I’ve just created an entirely NEW chicken problem.

Either way, I’ll keep you posted. 😂

What do you think—good idea or am I asking for trouble? 👇

All I wanted was a few fresh eggs. 🥚

Apparently, he did too. 🐍😂

Opened the nesting box and found this guy helping himself to breakfast — with the evidence still VERY obvious. 😳

Just another completely normal day on the farm… where apparently the egg box is now a buffet.

🐍🥚 Would you have reached in before you noticed him?! Because I’m pretty sure I set a personal record backing out of that coop. 😂

I really thought putting the new girls on the roost at night was going to be the magic trick. 🐔

Narrator: It was not.

The new girls are basically the new kids at school, hiding upstairs while the popular girls patrol the cafeteria. 😂

So now I’m out here playing principal, separating everybody long enough for the new girls to come down, eat, drink, and have five minutes of peace before the drama starts again.

Who knew integrating chickens would feel this much like middle school? 🤦‍♀️🐔

Please tell me eventually everybody sits at the same lunch table. 😂

PART 2: Operation chicken integration 🐔🌙

After keeping our 8 new hens separated—but visible to the flock—for about a day and a half, it was time for the next step.

Once everyone was settled in for the night, we quietly placed each of the new girls right onto the roosting bars with the rest of the flock. The theory is that introducing them while everyone is calm and sleepy can make that first “official” introduction a little less dramatic.

Will they wake up as one big happy flock? 😂 Probably not.

But hopefully this gives our new girls a much better chance of being accepted without quite so much bullying.

The REAL test is what happens when that coop door opens in the morning. 👀

Part 3 coming next… 🐔
