W**e made the Finger Lakes famous. B**r drinkers shouldn’t make the mistake of stopping there.

Yes, we’re going to drink Riesling.

But we’re also going to drink hazy IPA at an eight-acre farmhouse brewery, Belgian-style ales in a restored barn, wh***ey made from New York grain and c***r grown from Finger Lakes orchards.

This isn’t three days on a w**e trail. It’s three days drinking an entire region.

Brewery Ardennes was also named 2024 New York Belgian-Style Brewery of the Year.

For a b**r audience, this might be one of the most interesting stops of the entire trip.

Then we’ll finally behave like we’re in w**e country.

đŸș ATWATER TO CLOSE ITS HISTORIC CHURCH BREWERY IN METRO DETROIT

After more than a decade, atwaterinthepark in the Park in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, will pour its final b**rs Friday, October 23. Opened in 2014 inside a converted 1930s church, the distinctive brewery and German-style biergarten became a popular destination for Detroit-area b**r drinkers. A farewell celebration is planned for Friday.

The closure comes during a period of significant change for the Atwater Brewery brand, known for b**rs including Dirty Blonde Ale and Vanilla Java Porter. Its Grand Rapids location closed in July, while Atwater’s original Detroit brewery is continuing under founder and former owner Mark Rieth, who announced plans earlier this year to bring the brand back under local ownership. According to WXYZ Detroit, the Grosse Pointe Park property’s owner said Tilray Brands did not renew its lease.

đŸș STATUS UPDATE: CLEVELAND’S Brick and Barrel Brewing IS SALE PENDING

Another potential ownership change in Northeast Ohio’s craft b**r scene. Brick and Barrel Brewery, located at 1844 Columbus Road in Cleveland’s Flats, has been listed for sale at $250,000, with the business listing now marked “Sale Pending.”

The offering includes the operating brewery, equipment, furnishings and improvements, but not the real estate. The brewery remains open, and no buyer or completed sale has been publicly confirmed. NEOCBN told you about the pending sale several months ago, and longtime owner Karl Spiesman did confirm the sale within a day on Brick and Barrel’s own socials, citing changes in his own personal life and being ready for the business he built to transfer to its next ownership. For the moment, it remains unclear whether a new owner would retain the Brick and Barrel name, legacy b**rs such as Bitter Chief, or even the current taproom concept.

NEOCBN will continue watching for further developments as this sale moves through its various stages.

đŸș STONE’S ESCONDIDO LANDMARK GETS A NEW NAME — AND WILL KEEP POURING STONE B**R

Another chapter is unfolding in the story of Stone Brewing’s iconic Escondido destination.

Stone co-founders Greg Koch and Steve Wagner are moving forward with plans to transform the longtime Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens into Quarry Escondido, an independently operated restaurant and b**r destination.

The existing Stone restaurant will serve its final dinner on November 13 before temporarily closing for the transition. The new concept is targeting a reopening before the holidays, retaining much of the property’s familiar character while introducing a more entrĂ©e-focused dining experience. And yes, Stone b**r will still be on tap.

Koch and Wagner retained ownership of the Escondido property even after Stone Brewing was sold, making this an unusual opportunity for the original founders to put their own stamp back on one of American craft b**r’s most recognizable destinations.

Different name. Familiar founders. Same legendary destination.

đŸș DANKHOUSE'S COLUMBUS EXPANSION FINALLY MOVING FORWARD

After more than 15 months of delays and uncertainty, Newark-based DankHouse Brewing Company says its planned Columbus location, DankHouse — The Brix, is getting closer to construction.

The brewery reports that a productive meeting with city officials helped clarify outstanding issues, and that it has also met with its contractor. Work is now expected to begin in the near future.

DankHouse acknowledged that the process has been difficult enough that the owners occasionally questioned whether the expansion, originally announced about a year ago, would happen at all.

There is no confirmed opening date yet, but this is the clearest sign of forward momentum in months.

A longtime Summit County w**e destination could soon have new ownership.

The W**ery at Wolf Creek in Norton has been listed for sale for $4,388,000, according to commercial real estate listings updated in mid-October.

And this isn’t simply a vineyard or tasting room changing hands. The offering encompasses an established w**ery, distillery, event facilities, a speakeasy and residential accommodations overlooking the Barberton Reservoir.

Located at 2637 South Cleveland-Massillon Road, the property includes 33.75 acres and approximately 18,424 square feet of buildings. The listing highlights multiple revenue streams, including w**e production and retail sales, private events, entertainment and hospitality.

For more than three decades, Wolf Creek has been a familiar destination for Northeast Ohio w**e lovers, known for its scenic hillside setting, reservoir views, outdoor gatherings and resident goats. The listing represents an opportunity for a new owner to acquire a turnkey existing operation.

With another established Northeast Ohio beverage destination on the market, the question now becomes what its next chapter might look like.

đŸșđŸ« B***S IS BACK! BIRDFISH CELEBRATES 10 YEARS WITH A FIRST-AND-ONLY CANNED RELEASE!

One of BIRDFISH BREWING CO.’s most recognizable annual traditions is celebrating a milestone in Columbiana this Thursday, October 22.

B***S (Blueberry Oatmeal Outstanding Breakfast Stout) returns for its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of collaboration between Birdfish Brewing, The Flight Crew and Bearded Jug Brewing in support of breast cancer awareness.

And this year brings something special: For the first and only time, B***S is being packaged in 12-ounce cans! The 4.3% ABV blueberry oatmeal stout features colorful commemorative artwork celebrating the occasion. The b**r is the former homebrew recipe of Flight Crew member and NEOCBN contributor Jason Jugenheimer which he began brewing with Birdfish in 2017.

As tradition dictates, all six members of The Flight Crew (including yours truly!) will be behind the bar serving pints, with 100% of their tips donated to the cause. Free tours of the van will also be available from 4–7 PM, bringing an important breast cancer awareness resource directly to the community.

Ten years of friendship, collaboration, craft b**r and giving back. That’s something worth raising a glass to.

☕ MONDAY AFTERNOON MUG | THE COFFEE CULTURE THAT STARTED IT ALL

Before Starbucks. Before espresso bars. Before coffee became a daily American ritual, there was Yemen.

Although coffee plants originated in Ethiopia, Yemen helped transform coffee into the brewed beverage we recognize today. By the 1400s, coffee was being cultivated and consumed there, eventually reaching the world through the port of Mocha.

Now, centuries later, Yemeni coffeehouses are experiencing a remarkable resurgence across America, and Northeast Ohio is getting a taste of that tradition.

Unlike the typical grab-and-go coffee shop, Yemeni cafés emphasize hospitality, conversation and gathering. Traditional favorites include mufawar, coffee prepared with cardamom and cream; qishr, a fragrant drink made with coffee husks, ginger and cinnamon; and Adeni chai, a richly spiced milk tea.

Locally, places like ebreeqcoffee in downtown Cleveland, shibamcoffee in North Olmsted and baladicoffee in North Olmsted are introducing more people to these flavors and traditions. Many of these cafĂ©s also keep late-night hours, challenging the idea that coffee is strictly a morning drink. They offer a place to meet, talk and linger well into the evening—much like a brewery taproom, but with coffee, tea and traditional sweets instead of b**r.

Could coffeehouses become the next major third space—and even a new competitor to brewery taprooms? As more cafĂ©s stay open late and build community around conversation and hospitality, they may be expanding the role coffee plays in Northeast Ohio’s social life.

It’s more than another coffee trend. It’s a centuries-old culture finding a new audience, one cup at a time.

🎄đŸș CHRISTMAS ALE SEASON OFFICIALLY GOES WIDE TODAY!

One of Northeast Ohio’s most recognizable holiday b**rs is headed back to store shelves.

Following last week’s annual First Pour celebration in Cleveland, Great Lakes Brewing Company’s Christmas Ale begins its broader 2026 distribution today, October 19.

The seasonal favorite, brewed with honey, cinnamon and ginger, has been a Northeast Ohio holiday tradition for more than three decades.

This year’s holiday lineup also includes a new Holiday Party Pack, Snowscape Winter L***r and several barrel-aged releases, including a Caramel Pecan Barrel Aged Blackout Stout.

It’s only October, but for plenty of Ohio b**r drinkers, Christmas Ale season has officially arrived.
