Day 149 - Stell Bell - while we do appreciate you waiting until the weather warmed up - please release the hostages. We want to see your beautiful babies! Plus we really, really need sleep. Today I had the 12-4 am Stella watch. Thank god for friends that help out, wifi and cameras.

We survived phase one of the milk test. (Morning milking) As part of the test - you have to milk all of your goats in milk. Toddy, to say the least, is a reluctant participant. We have been working with her since she kidded but she is still very hard to milk. Bucking bronco comes to mind as a good descriptor. My nose and ribs can’t take a whole lot more. Moose may become a full time bottle baby so we can dry her up before the next test. She has some good days but today was not one of them! Love ❤️ Patience 🐐 Goats

My roommate for the weekend. Destiny Isn’t feeling well and the current feels like -3 isn’t helping. Brought her to the house for a bit of TLC. My 💜 goat. I was really tempted to sneak them all the animals into the basement.

Introducing new herd members! Born unassisted to our Nigora Georgia, meet Sunny and Goldie, born in a moment of beautiful sunshine beaming down where their mom was sunbathing in her run. Georgia is 50% Angora/50 Nigerian Dwarf. The babies are 75% Nigerian/25 Angora. The goal of our program is to develop beautiful fiber goat who is strong in dairy. Georgia is the first generation and is the first nigora we have bred. We are excite to see how she milks and to watch these gorgeous babies grow up. Welcome to the herd our very beautiful Mystery Moose. A surprise since we bred his mom 7 times to 3 different bucks and she never took, so imagine our shock when we did a pregnancy test when we noticed Toddy gaining weight and surprise- positive! No idea who the daddy is but we are thinking we may not have separated a buckling early enough. Moose got his name from his 5.4lb birth weight which is the biggest Nigerian we have ever kidded. He presented head only and we had a bear of a time trying to get him out. Of course he was born Sunday morning and it was going to take 1.5 hours to get a vet out….time we didn’t have if we wanted to save him and his mom. Because his head was already out and the sack broken, we didn’t feel we could safely get them in the car and drive 45 minutes to OSU. Phone a friend card played and thank god our mentor and very awesome friend was available and was to the barn in record time. While I know what she did to get him out, I don’t know how she managed it. Kim Stambaugh you saved his life - thank you so much. I feel bad as I am writing this that I didn’t even check on you today and the bruises I am sure you have on your hand and arm. As a farmer your friends are really your most important resource. Thank you so much! Baby is gaining weight - mom is swollen and very sore but everyone is alive and are going to be spoiled rotten. More details as we figure out Who’s Your Daddy with Mystery Moose! A huge thank you to my friends Carl Hudson and Christine Dragoo every step of the way - I don’t know what I would do without you! Well, kidding season has officially begun on the farm. Next up Georgia in February!
