Eeeekk!!! Finally our 🖤❤️Brabanters❤️🖤 are laying!! They aren’t the cleanest eggs yet…but they are just getting started!! Fertility checked yesterday, looks good!! Today makes #3 to be laid!! Going to give our hen about a week, then start collecting for incubation!!

Once I collect what I want for incubating and continue to check fertility, I plan to do a drawing for a half dozen fertile eggs, and then for a few chicks!!

I so can’t wait to get these underway!! Such BEAUTIFUL birds!!

Puppy update!!!

I apologize, the birds pretty much took over our time and my page this weekend 🥴🥴

However!!! Our sweet dachshund babies are doing well!!! And!! We have peepers 👀 😍‼️
Their eyes are starting to open, the little chocolate boy was first, the 2 little girls are following behind!!

I’m very this litter is by far the noisiest litter we’ve had in some time, probably an indicator for when they get older as well🤪🤪

I’ll be doing updated pics this Friday or Saturday!!

We do still have the little solid chocolate boy available‼️

My Momma Hen won 3rd place overall in the back yard division.

Maddie's pair did not place, however we won 3 pairs of champion bred silent auction birds, so she wants to start working with them and build up a show line for herself with them!

We had fun, and most importantly I enjoyed spending the day with my babies and doing something we’ve come to enjoy 🖤

PupDate!!

Our sweet dachshund babies are doing well! They will be 1 week old tomorrow!!

Unfortunately we lost one of the little black girls….that’s how it goes sometimes 😭

But the other 3 babies and mom are doing great!!

I will be posting pics in the following posts.

We have ONE pup available!! Our long haired little chocolate male!!

Our black female has been reserved, and our chocolate dapple female will be staying with us!!

Sitting here around our little campfire, just our kids, my husband and myself…steaks going to be going soon on the grill and reflecting on this past year….
Wiggle’n V had soooo much growth this past year!!

We embarked on new adventures adding 2 Zebu heifers, Rio Grande Turkey, and a LARGE variety of other birds including many types of chickens, the Muscovy and Runner ducks, as well as our most recent Blue Slates and Royal Palm turkey!! We also added the rare Brabanter chickens!!
We even did our first PT testing and have a fully tested flock of birds!!
We brought in some more Bourbon Red turkey….and of course you all have gotten to know and LOVE our Vulture!!
Our 12 year old guinea, Guinea Soup, got some friends of his own kind as well! They stay busy being our “Watch Birds”!!
We ended our bird adventures, by exploring and participating in our very FIRST poultry show, leaving with the Bantam Champion in the backyard division with our little Calico Cochin Bantam, Momma Hen!! Many thanks to Howard for his support, care and advice of our birds while we set out on new adventures!! You are so appreciated!!

Next!! Our dogs have BLESSED us this year!! We produced 2 amazing litters of dachshund pups….one being just a few days old! From these 2 litters, we added Penny and Bailey as well as our little chocolate dapple, who we are still deciding on her name. We also produced our first litter of pugs….and added little Brudder to our family!!
Speaking of dogs, we also added Zero! Our livestock guardian dog who is doing quite amazing working well with her bother, Gus and protecting our property and our goats!! Thanks so much to Shannon for our amazing livestock guardian dogs!!

I can say as great as it’s been, it hasn’t always been sunshine….we’ve experienced some hard losses as well. Unfortunately, that’s life and to be expected.

All and all, I can say, we’ve made it through, we are BLESSED, we are THANKFUL and we are looking forward to what 2023 has in store!! More growth, more shows, and more expanding!! With that, I absolutely HAVE to give a shout out to the most AMAZING husband out there, for your support of ALL my adventures….and do all that you can to make this all possible for me🖤 also to my kids!! They may not always like all the work that goes into keeping everything up and going, but they put in overtime when it’s needed!! You guys are so so appreciated 🖤 Thanks be to God for BLESSING us all🖤

New Year! New Dachshund Pup?!?!? Read and take notes❗️❗️❗️

Something that I can NOT stress enough!!
❌BEWARE OF BACKYARD BREEDERS AND SCAMMERS❌

A conversation I had today with a supposed
❗️breeder❗️

Person: I have a piebald male dachshund available!! Would you be interested in a trade for one of your black female dachshunds?!? I just love the blacks, its rare to get a solid black!

Me: What do you ask for your dogs, and what do they have behind them?

Person: I’m asking $1,100 for him. My dogs are not registered but both mom and dad are house trained, and pups leave with a blanket.

Me: No thanks, I will pass. I’m not looking to trade.

Person: Oh I see, your just interested in the money.

Me: No! Not at all! Its quality and legitimacy that I look for in my dogs. I am asking $1,000 for my black female. They are APRI registered.
Our pups come with their registration application, a full vet exam with vaccines done by our vet as well as started on flea/tick/heartworm medication. We also worm at 2/4/6/8 weeks. All of our pups are raised in our home, under foot and well socialized with kids, adults, and other amimals. Pups also come with a 2 year health guarantee and contract, microchipped, a generous puppy pack, their current food, toys, a blanket and more!!

……and at that point, I was blocked. No shame on my end. NONE. “Breeders” do your buyers a favor and make sure their hard earned money spent on your pups, are well worth it.

Baby Brudder update!!

The sweetest little smooshed faced baby did awesome for his surgery this morning!! The office called around 11:30 and said he did great, was up and going, and talking….and I believe it!! So you can be assured I didn’t wait a minute longer! He was soooo ready to come home!! Pain meds and antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds on board, and he’s going to be just fine 🖤

Y’all say a few prayers for this sweet face🖤
“Baby Brudder” had a run in with one of the big dogs last night….which resulted in an emergency dash to the vet 😩😩😩 Antibiotics, anti inflammatory and strong pain meds started last night, and he was sent home to get comfortable and relax as best he could. He was going to stay at the vet overnight, but he was NOT having being away from me….so our vet felt it was best he just come home for the night.

We returned to the vet for surgery first thing this morning, and unfortunately I had to leave him there this time 💔💔 I get to pick him up this afternoon, and I so can’t wait to see his sweet face again🖤

I just wanted to share some info/tips on how to prep for our extraordinary cold weather coming this week to our normally mild Houston area (because a bunch of my chicken friends have been asking me).

If you have fully feathered, healthy adult chickens, and you have a draft free coop, they should NOT need additional heat, even if it dips down into the teens, as forecasted. Heat lamps are notorious for causing fires and it happens ALL THE TIME. I urge you not to use one. The risk is too high.

There are some important things to keep in mind:
- Keep dry, clean bedding in the coop. An accumulation of moisture with low temps can lead to frostbite. Don’t leave water in the coop… they do not drink at night. Keep it poop-free as possible.
- You want your coop to be draft free, but make sure there is cross-ventilation near the ceiling so that moisture can escape (again, frostbite).
- Check their water supply a couple times a day (and ni***es if you use them) and replace water if it freezes. It doesn’t stay cold long enough here to warrant buying water heaters.
- You can feed cracked corn and whole scratch grains in addition to their regular feed. The increased calories can help keep them warm.
- Collect eggs often or they will freeze and break.
- Young chicks, non-acclimated house chickens, those in the middle of a heavy molt, and breeds with non-insulative feathers like silkies, frizzles/frazzles may need to be kept warmer (my Silkie does fine).
- Mediterranean/large combed breeds are less suited for extreme cold and may need to be brought in or have lanolin-based products like Bag Balm applied to their combs to prevent frostbite.
-I do not condone using heat for healthy adult chickens. HEAT LAMPS ARE A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD. Too many coops and homes have burnt down because of them.
- Should you need to have a heat source for chicks or compromised chickens because you can’t bring them indoors, I recommend heat plates (safest) or ceramic heat emitters instead. They’re much safer. If using a ceramic heat emitter, make sure they have ceramic sockets and are securely installed so they don’t fall into shavings. Keep debris off the tops so they don’t catch fire. Check them at least once a day.

Just candled our first set (6 eggs) of Momma Hen and Baby Roo’s eggs that are in the incubator! Day 10 and so far we have 100% Development and Movement!! I placed another 4 of their eggs in tonight as well.

At Current, none of these potentials will be available. Eventually some of the cockerels will be, while others may be retained for improvement.

Y’all!!! At the Extravaganza, We saw these little Cornish bantam chickens!!!

They didn’t make our list of breeds we NEED to add to our flocks…because they look…GOOFY! They remind me of ET 😳👽😳👽😳

But I can’t stop thinking about these goofy looking little birds!!

I think I need some of these little extraterrestrial creatures 🥴🛸🥴🛸🥴

No offense to their breeders for sure!! They are just oddly goofy looking to me, that they are weirdly cute!

All in the name of Texas Heat Wave June 2022 😩😩😩 Trying our best to combat the heat, and keep our Junior pen going as best, cool, and efficient as possible…. We have 4 waters in the coop with cool fresh water…as well as given the birds sliced watermelon. Watermelon is a great electrolyte to make available. Good potassium and magnesium levels, plus the birds love it! Also, cold lettuce helps with fluid intake as well as helping to cool them down. Our juniors don’t free range, but their coop is extremely ventilated, as well as located in an abundance of shade….but when the air is still with no breeze, we have to adapt. Unfortunately we don’t have power to our coop….our lights and what not, are all on solar power. But we are looking to possibly get some sort of mister. Thankfully though, our efforts have shown success so far, as we have not lost a single junior bird. Unfortunately we did loose one of our big reds laying hens. It’s just soooooo hot. Gooood Mornin to ya!!!!!! News from the coop this morning!! The girls let out for the day….true “FREE RANGE” happens here!!! Then we visit the junior pen, where we have our freedom rangers, our bantam cochins, our bourbon red turkey poults, and our “poultry guardian cats”!! Our freedom rangers are meat birds, growing out to be processed….in the meantime, they are raised with the same love and appreciation as all our other grow outs!! Our turkey poults are at a fun, curious age!! Turkeys have such personalities!! Of our Cochins, only 2 are left to grow out….however, I’m being extra cautious with these until I get them well established….so keeping them in this pen for their protection!! Last, our kittens!!! There’s a method to our madness with the kittens!! Similar to “barn cats” used to help keep rodents and snakes away, kitten raised with poultry from little on, learn to respect the birds, and get along with them….as they grow, they help keep the coop clear of rodents and snakes just the same…without harming the birds!! Gooood Morning Barnyard family!!! Layers getting turned out for the day!!! Baby Roo, our primary bantam Cochin roo, is in that group too! Why the bull panel?? Because! We leave the coop door open so the chickens can go back in and lay their eggs throughout the day….and the panel keeps the goats and the heifers, and the donkey from going in the coop and tearing the feeder up! Believe me, it’s happened a few times! This way, we can still leave the door open, the layers can go in and out as they please, and the goats, heifers and donkey stay out! Works PERFECT!!

Our little calico Cochin hen decided to go broody….but she only has 3 eggs 😆😆😆 We’ve been taking them to put in the incubator…guess she decided to do the work on her own lol! P.S. At one point in life….I was TERRIFIED of an old mother hen….the pecking can be BRUTAL 🤣😂🤣 I got over it….and now embracing it!! Guess I’m going to have to, with larger birds in the works!!

Here at Wiggle’n V Ranch, we take pride in the pups that we produce, and strive to produce pups that grow to be exceptional adults in conformation, trainability, work ability, and more. Our goal in planning each litter is to produce pups that conform to the Breed Standard set fourth by the registrations we are associated with (MASCA, ASDR, and AKC), as well as to continue to help better the breeds that we produce. Thus made obvious by continuous genetic testing on our breeding stock pedigrees, and past show status, and attendances at area conferences to gain in depth education regarding our breeds. We look forward to the future with our dogs, more conformation showing, herding trials, and more!

First and foremost, please understand that all breeding stock at Wiggle’n V Ranch are a part of our family. Many of our dogs are considered to be “Brothers” and “Sisters” to our children (just ask our kids!). A large majority of our dogs have nicknames such as “Son”, “Baby”, “Pretty Girl” “Sweet Boy” and “Momma”, and they ALL know that they are very much loved, appreciated, and SPOILED!! All our dogs have been blessings and pure joy to our family in one way or another, and we look forward to providing others with the love, companionship, joy, bliss and all that goes along with having a dog around; just as we have had the pleasure of experiencing these last nearly 8 years that we’ve been breeding.

With that being said, Wiggle’n V Ranch IS NOT a puppy mill. We DO NOT constantly produce pups year round, there are many months in between that we may not have a litter. Some years, we may only produce 1-2 litters a year, other times, we may have 3-4 litters a year, at no specific time. Each of our pups are handled daily from the time it is born, up until the very moment it leaves. All our pups are raised in our home, are well socialized with kids and adults, cats, other dogs both large and small, and more. Having a busy household and a small farm, allows our pups to be exposed to numerous different household sounds, textures, environments, taste, situations, and more that assist in providing you a well rounded pup.
