2020 "CEC" Nielsen Memorial Founders Sustainability Award We developed this award, the NC "CEC" Nielsen Memorial Founders Sustainability Award to honor the founder of Chico Electric, Cec Nielsen, and honor an exceptional customer and recognize a local charity with a donation. This award is symbolic of those principles. It’s true that we have the world’s best customers but there are only a few that really stand out. Starting in 2017 we honored our first recipient, Carriere Family Farms, next was Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and last year Empire Nut Company was our recipient. Like all our great customers, Jim Paiva and his team are very engaged in the installation process with us from the design, budget and through construction weather it’s updating processing equipment or installing solar; they know all aspects of our work and we learn from them; it’s a mutual respectful partnership resulting in the best possible outcome. Jim’s vision and risk of implementing sustainable practices resulted in what is here today; a legitimate alternative to the utilities, 5 solar systems, totaling 1.3 mW’s: this gives Paiva Farms independence, freedom of choice, lowers cost, improves reliability and provides clean efficient energy source for their business and it’s in the middle of a revolutionary energy trend. Paiva's solar has so far offset nearly 6,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas that’s equivalent of powering nearly 700 homes for one year or consuming over a half million gallons of diesel. Plus considering the carbon sequester of his orchards, Jim is a true steward of his land and of the planet. This is a very under recognized message. Five to 10 years ago, when this burgeoning industry was taking shape, it took risk takers and visionaries like Jim Paiva to make solar into a mainstream energy source and he recognized that is was also smart business for the future of their company. We are proud to be a part of that history. With 2021 right around the corner, who will be our next recipient?
