Fall weather has descended on us here in NE WA! It’s felt cold the past few mornings but surprisingly, this morning at the farm it was 31 degrees and the stock water had 1/2” of ice but it felt warmer and once the sun came up at about 9am, it warmed up to almost 40 degrees!

It was thrilling to see all the critters munching grass even after I filled all the hay feeders with hay. Cooler weather definitely suits the sheep and alpacas!

I feel such pride and satisfaction at my accomplishment today. I purchased all the needed equipment and materials yesterday and today, then successfully installed the antifreeze water hydrant and backfilled the excavation. It wasn’t the most professional job, I could not keep the hydrant and the pump controller post plumb as I backfilled, but they are close. Now to begin trenching for the pump electrical supply.

Colder weather is upon us. Not cold now but everyone is prepping for the change. My trailer park shut and locked all our hydrants so I have to expedite my efforts to install an antifreeze hydrant and get power to the wellhead.

Sounds simple but I need to install the hydrant with 2’ of gravel at the well head, push all the dirt back into the hole, then rent a “ditch witch”trencher to dig over 500’ of trench so we can run power from the meter to the pump.

Electrician comes Tuesday to advise me what to do and give me a price- hope I can install wire myself to save $$$ and he can wire up breakers, connection to pump and meter box.

I will take lots of pics as you can all laugh, poke fun, commiserate and learn along with me on efforts to bring infrastructure to the farm.

I learned yesterday that the antifreeze hydrants here at the trailer park will be shut off and locked mid month. I have been transporting water in a 65 gallon tank in my truck bed daily, filled by the hydrant behind my tiny house. I started to panic cause although I have a well and pump, I don’t have power or water line to antifreeze hydrant at the stock tanks. In fact, I have no water source on the farm at all!

So I decided to go have a conversation with the company that dug my well and installed the pump. I explained my situation and they helped me come up with a solution. He told me to go find a small generator and let him know what the 220 outlet looks like and he will help me build a connection called a “pig tail” to wire the plug to my pump and then plug into the generator.

He walked me thru how to schematically connect to my well and set an antifreeze hydrant that I can use to run lots of hose to the drinking water tanks. The hose will need to be disconnected everyday after filling but should be able to farm and not freeze. The drinking water tank locations should be close enough to my power pedestal that I can run a couple long, heavy duty extension cords to tank heaters to keep defrosted as needed.

Situation doesn’t feel quite as dire but still will require me to go outside my comfortable place to do this install. Wish me luck!

Some of my many prayers have been answered. I was able to find a way to pay the movers for all my belongings including farm equipment. I may also have a job to subsidize my retirement income, and provide some funds to support farm improvements.

As you probably know, I was on the edge of being as down and meltdown last weekend. I was in sobbing tears on Friday night and absolutely hated my dog. I seriously considered giving her away. But I went to our river swimming spot and cried, turning over all the challenges to a higher power.

Everyone has their own belief system and I won’t force mine on to you, but I have several instances of reaffirmation of support, comfort and care when I have let go and turned it over to that higher power.

This not meant to be any attempt to proselytize, it is to share my faith and understanding of trust, even though I do not trust by nature.

Oh my friends, it has been a very tough weeks…. I have been trying to get bids for water lines and hydrants but have no reply. I think I finally for a loan to bring all my belongings especially the fleeces, yarns and other products as well!

It has been a tough few months moving across the county, bringing alpacas and sheep, trying to build catch pens, shelters and other needs for herd management. But I have a hay supplier that is willing to store my hay but I need to for it.

Now if/when my belongings arrive there should be space in the 40’ container and all panels, feeders, etc can be outdoors.

All prayers are welcome!

As many of my followers are aware, it’s been tough recently, knowing very cold weather is coming, I don’t have stock water on site at the farm and bids are giving me incredible sticker shock and stress

But today, strangers that are friends of the neighboring family who are holding estate sales to sell off their parents belongings, kindly offered to bring me a T post pounder so I could set posts to build catch pens outside my pasture gates to make it possible to treat the herd.

I went down to the estate sale and sure enough, he had the post pounder with him! I got 5 T posts set, some wire run around some to create a pen for the boys and returned the pounder after a trip with the girls to the river for a quick dip.

Then I got a chance to talk about my circumstances with the bid price, failure of response to requests and general background on the property. Turns out the son hosting the estate sale said his family used to hay my field. And I also got the name of another contractor to contact for a bid.

This neighborly attitude and willingness to help a total stranger is why I chose to return to the PNW!

I did have another job interview and pray that I get the job. Additional income will help with decisions I need to make going forward.

Another piece of good news- was able to catch and worm another female as advised by the vet. Many more to go but looks like oldest cria that had diarrhea is producing regular p**p now!

Friends, I am reaching out for suggestions because I have run out of ideas and my prayers have yet to be answered.

As you know I bought my farm
Property in June, spent all July and part of August paying for the improvements but I could not get prices for extension of waterlines, electrical service to the pump and an electrical
Outlet for stock tank heaters and a septic system. I got an estimate for
Consolidation of my various loans to finance
this but I could still not afford a barn.

I have spent days and weeks worrying about this- how can I consolidate a loan to cover what I still owe for the land, the private loan I took to pay for the well pump and to cover the extension of water service lines and pressurized septic system. I would still need to pay the loan for tiny house RV.

I decided to put the property on the market, sell the tiny house and find a new place- maybe not 20 acres but with house, barn and fencing. Does
Anyone have feedback? I have prayed about this and turned over to my higher power for resolution but want to be sure I am doing the right thing. I had such plans for an agrotourism endeavor and rotational grazing plan for the current place but living in town, paying for space
Rent plus tiny house payment, and land purchase plus all other expenses is bleeding me and I am so very tired.

I am willing to hear from others about ways to make this work.
