October 13 is National No Bra Day While the name might make you smile, today carries an important message: breast cancer awareness.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and National No Bra Day is an opportunity to remind the women in our lives and ourselves about the importance of knowing our bodies, talking with healthcare providers about breast health, and getting recommended screenings.
Breast cancer has touched countless families. Today we honor those who have been diagnosed, celebrate survivors, remember those we've lost, and stand beside everyone currently going through treatment.
One of the most important things we can do is pay attention to changes in our bodies. If you notice something unusual, a new lump, swelling, skin changes, ni**le changes, or anything that simply doesn't seem normal for you, talk with your healthcare provider.
Screening recommendations can vary based on age, personal health history, family history and individual risk, so ask your healthcare provider when mammograms or other screenings are appropriate for you.
Today is also a good day to:
🎀 Schedule an overdue health appointment
🎀 Encourage someone you love to keep up with recommended screenings
🎀 Support breast cancer research or patient-support organizations
🎀 Wear pink in honor of someone affected by breast cancer
🎀 Share information that might encourage someone else to take care of their health
And remember: National No Bra Day isn't really about whether you wear a bra or not. It's an opportunity to start conversations and remind one another that our health matters.
Who are you wearing pink for this October? If you're comfortable sharing, leave a 🎀 or the name of someone you want to honor, remember, encourage, or celebrate in the comments.
