Last night we had to say goodbye to Russell's Valentino, Our main and favorite herd buck.

They always say "When you have livestock, you have deadstock" But he was one I was never prepared for.

He has sired some amazing rabbits for us, Including Russell's Knock Em Out (Knox), Russell's El Tango De Roxanne (Roxanne), And my upcoming superstar, Russell's Pretty Woman.

He was my first home bred Californian that I kept and my first "Russell's" Herd buck. Along with his many firsts he was my first ever ARBA win and leg.

He was an amazing buck and my favorite in the barn. He will be greatly missed.

It's official ... we have another RCG in the barn. Russell's Stick to Your Roots "Aspyn" is a gorgeous chocolte Mini Rex doe. Her dam was JLR Hyacinth, a gorgeous lilac doe, and was eligible to be RCG bit we sadly lost her before we could register her. Aspyn & her brothers were only 4 weeks old so needless to say this little lady is a barn lifer.

Chocolate Mini Rex Herd Buck 👀 for a new 🏡

DOB: January 5, 2023

We have decided that it is time for Howie to move along, We have a lilac buck, a chocolate doe(who is a RGC), and a blue otter doe out of him and we really don't feel like there is anybody else to breed him to in our barn. He has thrown some very nice kits for us and we feel he would be a great addition for someone who wants to work on chocolate and Lilac! He is a bigger buck but he has the potential to throw smaller kits. 2/3 of the kits we kept from him are below 4 lbs at almost a year old. His kits are pictured below!

I thought this deserved a post of its own…

I planned on showing Clyde, Bonnie’s brother, Saturday at msu, but found out I never entered him! I even put him on the table for show A on accident! 🫣
I already had him written on my white board for sale, because I don’t need anymore black bucks.

An awesome young lady bought him to start her breeding program and be a 4-h bunny. She entered him in both youth shows on Sunday, and Clyde really made a great first impression!

Show C under Corey San Jose Clyde picked up a leg, and ended up BOV and BOB!!! In show D he took 1st SJB again!

To top it all off he got an honorable mention for BIS!!! 🤯🥳🥹

Congrats Emily! I couldn’t think of a better showman for him and am so excited to see what you two do in the future!

This was literally the best feeling in the world and really finished the weekend off on a high note!

We had a great time at the MSRBA Spring convention! Though we didnt have many rabbits to show, We got a lot of great comments on all of our rabbits!! We are also bringing home some new faces that we are excited to include into our program! (Placings and intros in the photos! We will update when official placings are released!)

Thank you to Cathy McDevitt and Marley for giving us some helpful pointers with our Californians!! We appreciate it SO much!!

Also congratulations to Feathers and Foliage Farm on all of your placings this weekend with your hollands, including Dobby!!

Welcome to Russell Ranch Rabbitry! We are a Mother and Daughter run rabbitry that focuses mainly on Mini Rex in the varieties of Opal, Lilac, and Broken as well as Californians!

Chelsea works with the lilac Mini Rex. She grew up on an Arabian breeding farm and showed horses all over the USA and Canada. She went to school to be a liscensed vet tech so she handles a lot of the veterinary stuff! She joined in with Russell Ranch in July of 2024 when she bought her first Lilac doe, Hyacinth. Hyacinth went on to be an amazing rabbit, even winning BOG at MSU. She was due to be Russell Ranch's first ever registered grand champion when she sadly passed away. With a son and daughter from her surviving litter, Chelsea carried on Hyacinth's legacy and even got the registered grand champion Hyacinth was supposed to be. Since then she has acquired many more rabbits of a range of colors and is on a mission to produce lilacs and lilac otters.

Alaina (the one writing this) works with opal and broken Mini Rex, as well as the Californians. Alaina handles most of the social media (winkwink😉) as well as a lot of the messages. Alaina will be going to school end of march to be certified in cattle artificial insemination. Alaina began Russell Ranch in April of 2023 when she got her first Californians from FFA. She kept 2 does out of those californians and bought a buck, Rosa, Roxi, and Bruno. Though originally planning on getting into Rex as a second breed, she got her first mini rex in August of 2023, a black buck named Mooshu. In November she bought an opal doe named Bella, thinking it would just be the two of them. Since then, her Mini Rex program has overtaken the Californians.
