Dala Horse Farm The way homesteading should be! We are a small farm located in Cornville, Maine, established in 2023. Then, on the farm we added kittens and next was chickens.

We are Dala Horse Farm, more than a business, more than a property, it is our home, a lifestyle and we want to share it with you. From the day we purchased our property we have been working hard to create a homestead to share with the community. It began with a major renovation on the farmhouse that will continue for many years to come. We have a large garden with plans to expand but the homestead is more than just the property. We started our farm as a place for our children to explore and learn about the world around them. It gives our family the freedom to be proud of growing our own food and creating things that interest each of us. Part of our large barn is being turned into a workshop space. In this space we will offer nature based classes for kids to explore and learn about homesteading and the nature around them. The barn was built in the late 1800s and in need of restoration so while construction is still in progress we will offer some outdoor workshops.

I embraced my Mainer and took a break from all the apples to make pumpkin woopie pies last weekend. They were sooooo good, so I had to make another batch for this weekend.

The kids are involved in everything but sometimes inlet them go be kids while I enjoy the peace and quiet! We have been pressing a lot of c***r and somehow we still have sooooo many apples on the trees. Since we have done so much it’s no longer exciting and the kids are tired of it so I gave them a morning off which kinda was a morning off for me too! Just being outside in the quiet this morning was very nice until the reality sets in that I have a fridge full of c***r now to process and a mound of pears on the counter to can!

The pressure is real (pun intended). I have two canners going at once and then need to change one out to process c***r too. Maybe next year will be the year I am comfortable using the pressure canner and can experiment with different recipes but for now a little stressful watching the pressure gauge especially with the kids underfoot and distracting me!

Cooler temperatures means working on projects again that have been too hot in summer heat. This will be a small greenhouse in our cottage garden. Excited to see more things taking shape!

We are having the first signs of fall here and the kids couldn’t wait any longer they had to pick some pumpkins. You can’t stop at just one so we picked a wagon load!

First batch of apple c***r donuts! I baked these in muffin tins instead of frying them and they tasted almost identical.

The apples seem to be ripening early this year. I already made all the applesauce we need and have five gallons of c***r in the freezer. The rest of the c***r we make we will be canning. ***r

We pulled the last of the dried beans and they are hanging in the barn. The first round got shelled, picked some flowers to dry and some herbs. We are starting to collect apples and will be pressing c***r this weekend!
