RAW MILK REDUCES RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS AND FEVERS, SIMILAR TO BREASTFEEDING 🤧🥛💪 - A study of 983 European infants looked at consumption of raw milk, pasteurized milk, and ultra-high temperature pasteurized milk alongside occurrence of respiratory tract infections, rhinitis (runny nose), otitis (ear infections), and fever. This study was published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Every week from age 8 weeks to 53 weeks, the infants’ health outcomes and dairy consumption were tracked. “The main finding of this analysis was an inverse association between consumption of unprocessed [raw] cow's milk and rhinitis, RTI [respiratory tract infection], and otitis.” There was also an inverse association between raw milk and fevers.

In layman’s terms, an “inverse association” means that as one increases, the other decreases. This study thus found that, as raw milk consumption increased, the incidence of runny nose, respiratory tract infections, fevers, and ear infections decreased. The researchers concluded that, “The protective effects of raw cow's milk on infections were comparable to those of breast-feeding, suggesting similar anti-infective properties of bovine and human milk.”

What happens when a Mallard drake 🦆 mates with a Muscovy hen? The offsprings are called hinnies (hinny- singular) and they are sterile. It doesn't mean the hinny hens won't produce eggs, because they still can; however, their eggs will always be infertile. 🥚🥚🥚
The ducklings in this clip have a chance of being "hinnies" as we have 2 Mallard drakes as well as Muscovy drakes. Momma duck seen here with her babies is a Muscovy hen. Wishing they are all "fathered" by the Muscovies. 😜🤞🏼😆

Friendly Reminder
Cayote Mating Season is from January to March. During this time, cayotes are more active, more aggressive, and may prey on your small pets.

Secure and protect your pets by:
1. Having them on a leash especially when you walk them outside. Don't leave your pets unattended.
2. Removing any food source-- bird feeders and/or garbage so as not to attract cayotes.
3. Carrying or using a *tool (whistle, stick, etc.) to scare away cayotes.

UPDATE: They're now with their new family! They are vigilantly patrolling their new territory and carefully guarding their new goat herd! 🥰

Things are changing quickly in the farm due to major inevitable life events. Although we love and care so much for our 2y/o LGDs, we couldn't bring them where they can't do the "job" they enjoy. Hence, we are looking to rehome them to a good homesteading/farmsteading family that will allow them to do the "work" they're supposed to, but who will also be responsible for their safety. "Safety" meaning, they make sure they are "fenced in" and not allow them to wander off to their neighbors' properties (to be shot or killed). "Responsible" meaning, they won't let them loose and be on the streets (to be run over), or worse, DUMP them when they "feel" they no longer have use for them.
These Anatolian-Great Pyrenese brothers, Chief (with a black muzzle) and Duke (with more of a white muzzle), practically grew up with (our Kunekune) pigs and (our Nubian) goats. They are very reliable "livestock porotectors" and "guard dogs." They should be good with sheep and/or cattle. However, we DON'T recommend leaving them UNSUPERVISED with fowls (chickens, ducks, etc.). They obey basic commands-- "Sit!", "Come!", "Eat!", "Leave it!" (We use it to have them "not touch" the chickens/other fowls, turtles, snakes, or even squirrels.), and even "Paw!" (especially with Duke). They work well together and prefer to have them go together.
They have separate food bowls, but will share a large plastic basin for a water bowl. Duke will pretty much eat any dog (or human) food. Chief, on the other hand, is a bit picky-- he wants his dry kibbles "softened" (with warm water) and WITH something ENTICING such as raw or cooked egg or leftover table food (as long as it's NOT TOXIC/HARMFUL to dogs). 🥩🥚🥓🍟🍗🍛🥛🍳

The farm LGDs and geese alerted me to an "intrusion" early this morning! 😂 It's simply wonderful to get occasional visits from our cute resident pond critters just like this Texas Spiny Softshell Turtle that's just a little over a foot long! 🐢
