Garden update
The herbs are growing 💚
Today, I harvested catnip and lavender.
The catnip is 2 years old and the lavender about 2.5 years old.
The catnip is huge, wild and the cards love it 🤣
We cut enough to nearly fill up our bathtub!
This will be dried and used for a medicinal tea. Catnip helps aid digestion and reduces stomach upset when you’re sick and reduces menstrual cramps. Last year I dried a little less than this ale we ended up with a gallon mason jar filled to the brim. We’re used every bit of it over the winter.
The lavender grows beautiful here. The first harvest is typically fairly small, but the return harvest will be much larger. We used this to put in our coffee & tea. Yes, I said coffee.

Our lemon balm will be ready to harvest soon 💚

Alright y’all,
I paused my posting for the Pearl and Pine for nearly a year. Our life got a little crazy in that time and it was just put on the back burner.
In May of last year we started fostering and in one years time we’ve gone from a family of 3 to a family of 7! 3 kiddos under 2 🙃. We are loving it, but time just isn’t as easy to find 🤣🤣🤣
I hope to get back to it soon.
I’ll take some pictures of the garden tomorrow 💚🌱

The tomatoes are coming in! We’ve been picking about 15-20 full size tomatoes and 30 cherry tomatoes every day. I’ll be canning salsa today or tomorrow.
We also pulled the onions up.

It’s been a while since I updated all about the garden. I’ll tell you more on that later this week. But, here is the harvest from last night and today. That’s it with the potatoes, but we probably got a total of 50 lbs this year! Not bad💙

I’m delighted 😍
This garlic is actually what didn’t grow last year. I didn’t plant any this year but these four heads came up, I plan to save them for planting in October. They will make a lovely garlic harvest next year.
I reached in the potato bed to see how they were doing and they’re doing great!!! I didn’t think they would be this big yet!

I love all the birds that visit my garden, even the thieves 🤣

This may be my best smelling harvest. After my morning harvest I looked up when to harvest lavender. Apparently, it’s time!
We planted these last year but this is its first time flowering.
I harvested a small bushel and I plan to make paleo lavender syrup for my coffee.
Yes, I’m a weirdo! I like lavender coffee 🤷🏻‍♀️💜

The first of many harvests. I pulled 4 radishes and a huge bushel of catnip. Ember is sure enjoying it 🤣🖤

The radishes will be sliced thin and put on our tacos for dinner. David loves the little bit of heat they add and I love the crunch.
The greens will be kept until the basil is bigger. My absolutely favorite way to make pesto sauce is with radish leaves and basil. It is delicious. I make loads of it and freeze them in ice cube trays to use throughout the year.

The catnip will be dried and used for tea. I’m drinking a cup of it right now! I am not feeling 100% this morning, thankfully catnip tea is proven to help with upset stomach.

A little garden update…
They catnip and lavender we planted last year in our tea beds are doing great. We lost 2 lavender plants but 3 of them are thriving and will soon be flowering 💜
Today I harvested a lot of catnip to dry for tea. It’s proven to help with anxiety, gastrointestinal pain, and menstrual cramps. As usual, I air dry herbs. Tie a bit yarn around a bushel and hang to dry, they’ll be ready to use soon.
The tomato plants were put in two days ago, I may have overdone it 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️
I haven’t counted, but I think I’ve got roughly 40 plants. Whatever we can’t use fresh or can will be shared with others ♥️
Pepper plants went in Saturday, I’m hopeful they will do better than the last two years.
We planted potatoes and onions a few weeks ago and they are doing fantastic! I can’t wait to see the results.
Our oregano, sage, and thyme last through the winter and are growing great. I harvested oregano and thyme today. The Sage has already gone to seed so I’ll wait on that.
I need to get the basil, dill, and rosemary in the ground. I was hopeful that our Rosemary would overwinter last year because it had gotten so big, but we had a few days at zero degrees and they all died 😞. This year I will cover them in hopes they thrive year around.
I planted radishes, lettuce, spinach, calendula, cumin, and echinacea a few weeks ago and they’re slowly popping up. Radishes are coming along beautifully.
Yellow squash, zucchini, and cucumbers went in the ground Saturday evening. I’m hoping the bugs stay away, although I know better 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️
The blueberry bush we bought 2 years ago is doing well! I can’t wait to watch it continue growing 💙
Still more to go in the ground, but for now, I’ll enjoy this rain and thank God for it.
Mom helped me plant and she said the day after planting the beet seeds she was out there checking on them. I know how she feels, I check everyday even though I know it takes time.
Gods blessings always amaze me.
