It was a sad morning for me today. Awoke to one of my grow-pullets deceased.

A small predator breached my free range coop, and took only this one girl. The most likely culprit- raccoon or opossum.

Most people think raccoons and opossums only come for eggs. But they are very capable of taking a chicken. This pullet was large, almost the same size as my hens. Ruling out a fox or coyote, as one of those would've taken every chicken in the coop. I'm thankful the rest were untouched. This is only one chicken out of 4 coops, but it is still a loss.

Part of having many live animals is facing that some of them may pass unexpectedly. πŸ’”

As I watch our county undergo data center destruction, I mean construction, it pains me to see so many pages filling their personal feeds with AI.

Disrespectfully, if I see you asking for followers or engagement using AI pictures all the time, you're not getting one from me in fact, I unfollow pages that do that.

There are so many tools, templates, etc out there for you to create the same thing but with a little bit of hard work involved. Tutorials are EVERYWHERE!

Be creative, be original. Stand out in a way that is unapologetically, YOU.

Hopping on the AI bandwagon is literally taking land and water away from folks like us/yourself that rely on it to make ends meet.

The environment we use to water our crops and animals, raise our families on and grow our food from is being DECIMATED at an alarming rate.

If this seems dramatic, look up how much water data centers use, look up environmental impacts on towns that have already had them built. It's horrifying and we, of all people, need to protect the land we use πŸ‘EVERY πŸ‘SINGLE πŸ‘DAY!

"Who cares if you don't follow us, you're one page"

Yes, I agree, except it's not just me. I know a lot of other pages that feel the same way.

I'm not staring at those who use it once in a blue moon but I AM staring directly at those I see post AI everyday, several times a day.

Quit! You're taking part in ruining our planet, and for what?
A couple likes? A few followers? Doesn't seem worth it from where I'm standing.

You can't take back the damage once it's done.

Okay, I'll step off of my soapbox now.

I just can't sit here and watch those who rely so heavily on the land and preach ways to live off it, so eagerly feeding into something that will ultimately destroy it. 😩😩

If this post offends you, the truth can hurt sometimes. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I let some squash go too long in the garden. They wouldn't be very good for cooking anymore. But we do our best not to waste around here. Fortunately the chickens and ducks are happy to eat it up. Had some cabbage and asparagus scraps to go in too.

They approved πŸ’š πŸ“πŸ”

πŸ¦† Ducks on the homestead are so much more than looking cute and giving eggs. The main reason I got ducks is because they provide a fantastic fertilizer for the garden every day.

Their pool water quickly becomes brown with duck waste as they are pretty much constantly crapping in their water as they swim. Crusty 🀘🏽

Unlike chicken/cow/horse manure which is "hot" and will burn plants without composting first, duck waste is a "cold" fertilizer.

The waste water goes straight from the pool onto the garden soil, not the foliage. (In my case via sump pump) It beats synthetic and commercial fertilizers every time IMO. Not only does it have the macro nutrients needed (the NPK ratio you'll see on bags from the store) Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium- it's also full of micronutrients like calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, selenium and more. All good things plants need to grow and produce. 🌿

To keep it simple you get "free" 😜 organic fertilizer ready to go, eliminating the need for synthetic or store bought fertilizers. And they also have cute quacks and bigger, more nutrient dense eggs. πŸ₯šπŸ’š
