This is why we do it. 🐑❤️

Nobody gets into farming for the easy days. They get into it for moments like this. A healthy animal, a full barn, and the kind of bond that only comes from showing up every single day.

This month is a good time to pause and appreciate how far your animals have come since winter. The work you put in during the harder months is showing up right now in real, visible ways.

Here's to the farmers, ranchers, and caretakers who never stop caring. 🙌

Did you know? Those pretty wildflowers in summer pastures aren't always as harmless as they look. 🌸

Several common field plants, including some thistle varieties and buttercup, can be mildly toxic or cause digestive issues in cattle and other livestock when grazed in large quantities.

Most animals will naturally avoid them when they have plenty of good forage available. But when pasture is overgrazed or dry, hungry animals are much less selective about what they eat.

Keeping forage quality high and monitoring grazing rotation is one of the simplest things you can do to protect your herd this summer. 🫡

There's a certain kind of satisfaction that comes with watching calves out on summer pasture for the first time. 🐄☀️

All the early mornings, the calving checks, the weaning stress, the feed adjustments... it all leads to this. Animals that are healthy, curious, and thriving.

June has a way of paying you back for everything you put in during the harder months. 🙌

June tip for backyard flock keepers 🐔

Longer days mean more light, and more light means hens that are working harder. Hens laying consistently in summer heat have higher calcium and protein demands than most people realize.

Three things to check this month:
✅ Are your layers on a dedicated layer feed rather than scratch or mixed grain?
✅ Is oyster shell available free-choice so hens can self-regulate calcium?
✅ Are you checking water daily? Hens in heat can drink twice their normal intake.

A small adjustment now can make a big difference in egg quality and shell thickness heading into the hottest weeks of summer. 🥚

There is something really grounding about a flock that trusts you. 🐑

Good feed. Clean water. Attentive care. It sounds simple because it is. And the animals that thrive are usually the ones whose people never stopped paying attention to those fundamentals.

Hot take: hay quality matters just as much in summer as it does in winter. 🌾

Here's something a lot of horse owners don't think about until there's a problem. When pasture quality peaks in early summer, horses on full turnout may actually be taking in less dry matter than you think because fresh grass is mostly water.

Horses still need consistent forage to keep the hindgut moving. Pulling hay entirely when pasture looks great can quietly lead to digestive upset, changes in manure, or unexplained behavior shifts.

A simple rule to keep in mind: forage first, always. Even in June. 🙌

Green pasture is great, but it’s not always complete nutrition.🐴

As horses transition to spring grass, they may still need support for minerals and balanced energy.

Pasture alone doesn’t always cover everything.

Have you adjusted your feeding plan yet this season? 🌱
