We had a pretty heavy down pour! I am so glad we got our snapdragons cut and processed before the storm!!! We cut them a day earlier than planned, so now we'll see if the air conditioner works as well as the cooler. Kevin had me laughing because he kept saying over and over, "Every flower farmer knows you have to get your corn cockles picked before a storm!" I am laughing outloud while I am typing this just thinking about the way he was saying it! He can really get me laughing!! He is a gem! In case you aren't familiar with corn cockles, they are the purple flowers in the picture below.

We are working on making a couple of our raised beds into mini hoop houses. We get a lot of snow and hope these will allow us to plant the cool weather flowers outside a little sooner. We still need to attach the plastic, and we'll post more pictures when it is done. It was a fun day and appreciated the help from family.

We have been busy all fall making improvements on our little flower farm. We have built some raised beds, pulled up the landscape fabric to prepare the soil and put them back down again, planted lots of tulip and daffodil bulbs, relocated perennial flowers and collected flower seeds. Our preschool grandchildren have blessed the toil with their presence and "help!" A big thank you to Lillian and Mary Anne Kaputa from Cranberry Hill Farm for helping us lay down the landscape fabric!!!

May 13th, the Saturday before Mothers Day, we will be involved in a Shop Hop with some of the local shops in Croghan. We will be offering homemade dish gardens, high end hand made wreaths, perennials, tulips bouquets, homegrown honey, and assorted plants. The other shops will be offering beautiful one of a kind hand made items. We have some very talented people in our little town, and I was blessed to be included this year. It should be a fun day, so remember your Mom and shop local!

The daffodils and tulips are starting to bloom! Traditionally they are picked at "bud crack stage," that is when you can see a bit of color. The reason they are picked at this stage is so the flowers will last longer in the vase. We will have bouquets on the porch of the garden shed as they become available. I will post pictures.
