We know how important it is to stay active and post regularly here, and we truly try our best to share our homestead life with ya'll as much as possible. But between the daily rhythm here as a homeschooling mama of 6, homestead stuff and some personal things going on behind the scenes, we have decided to take a short social media break.

We’ll be stepping away for a little bit and plan to be back April 1st! 🌱🌷🪻🌻🦋🐛

We also want to say how much we appreciate the private messages we’ve been receiving from so many of you checking in on us. Your kindness and support truly means a lot to our family.

Until then, we’ll be soaking up time with our family, animals, and the homesteading life that started this page in the first place. We look forward to catching up with everyone soon. 🐓🌿

~ See you April 1st~

I miss Stephen so much it physically hurts… but he truly left me the most precious gifts 🐣🐣

Breeders always talk about “breeding for temperament,” but this is the first time I’ve experienced it this deeply and this personally.

Stephen is in every one of his chicks. They’re gentle. They’re affectionate. They talk to me, cuddle into me, and happily sit on me or beside me. The moment I walk out to them, they come running — excited, expectant, full of trust. It’s like he poured a piece of himself into each one.

My heart aches for him every single day… but loving these babies feels like still loving him. Like I get to carry part of him forward.

And this little boy? He is completely in love with me. The second I step into the back room, he has to be on my shoulder. Every time. 🥰

What a beautiful gift he gave us. 💛❤️🐣🐓

“You could have not said anything.”
“Everyone has it.”
“It’s everywhere.”

But I am not everyone.

Yes, the chickens are a passion. A hobby. A small business. But before any of that — my most important title is Mama.

He is my why....

This little blue-eyed, long-haired, all-boy with the holes in his "favorite jeans" — he’s the reason behind every decision I make. 🩵

In a world — and honestly in a large part of the chicken community — where integrity and honesty can feel rare… I chose to tell the truth. Not because it was easy. Not because it was profitable. But because it was right.

Do we make hundreds or thousands of dollars doing this? No.
In fact, we’ve already spent over $4,000 this year — and it’s only February 😅🫣🙈

This was never about money. It’s about stewardship. It’s about responsibility. It’s about raising our children to value honesty over image and integrity over income.

I would never throw shade at someone who chooses to handle things differently. That’s not my place. We’re simply choosing the path we can stand behind.

Thank you for ALL the comments, the private messages, the encouragement, and especially for asking about Carter. He’s good. He understands what this means, and he’s ready to take on the challenge alongside me. This boy is so strong and smart!!

We truly hope you’ll follow along as we shift our focus and work toward building natural immunity in our flock. This is a new chapter — and we’re walking into it with open hearts. 🖤

Important update ⚠️

Last week we tested a bird... this week we received official test results confirming that bird was positive for Marek’s.

Note: (an outside bird! NONE of our Silkies, Milles or Bantam Cochins have tested positive)
Marek’s is far more common in backyard AND breeder flocks than most people realize. Many never test. We chose to test because we believe in transparency, informed decisions, and doing things the right way — even when it’s hard.

Because of this result we will no longer be selling birds, hatching eggs, or chicks.

This is not a decision we made lightly. It’s one made out of responsibility and integrity.

Moving forward, our focus shifts inward. We will be navigating this season as best as we can, working toward building a stronger, more resilient flock by selecting for natural immunity, hardiness, and true disease resistance. Our heart has always been in raising robust, thriving birds — and that mission has not changed.

We had already planned to share this update once we had official confirmation. Unfortunately, news has a way of traveling before facts are fully shared. We won’t participate in gossip, speculation or drama. Period.

What we will do is continue operating with honesty.

To our chicken besties~ the encouragement, kindness, zero judgment, knowledge and love you continually show us are SO much more appreciated then you will ever know. We wouldn't be here without you 🖤

This season has reminded us to be discerning.

We hope you’ll continue to follow along as we turn the page into a new chapter. It may look different than before, but it will be rooted in the same values: integrity, resilience, and love for the birds in our care.

Onward. 🤍🐓

Is there a Heaven for chickens?

Oh yes. There absolutely has to be...

And I know without a doubt that my beautiful Sweet Stephen is there now...

He was SO much more than “just a chicken.”

Crow loud in Heaven.
You were so very loved. 💛🐓✨

Guys this loss just completely broke my heart 💔 I'm honestly considering getting out of chickens all together....

There are going to be some big shifts happening here at Cluck & Bloom Homestead ... This is just to let everyone know.

Yesterday was extremely hard 😞

Not only have we been dealing with some personal family issues behind the scenes, but we also received some challenging bird-related news. Then last night, while doing chores, we experienced a massive loss.

You have birds… and then you have birds. The special ones. The ones that steal your heart.

We lost our precious Stephen to an attack from another rooster. It happened so fast. I grabbed him immediately, but the damage was done and he passed in my arms.

I was doing chores. I opened the gate. It’s my fault entirely, and I don’t know that I’ll ever forgive myself.

This boy was different. He was so special. He’s the little rooster Calihan carried around all summer. The rooster who rode in the wagon with the kids. The one who never bit, never pecked, never hurt anyone or anything. I would even put chicks and small juveniles in with him because he would “Daddy” them.

He free ranged all last summer with our barnyard birds, and every single night he would follow us up because he wanted to sleep in the garage — in a crate he decided belonged to him. At sundown he would stand at the back door patiently waiting to be tucked in.

My heart is completely broken 💔

We never got any Mille babies from him because his brothers, Duke and Donald, run the Mille hen pen and I was always afraid they’d hurt him.... Ironic, isn’t it?

We do have some adorable little Mille/Cochin splits he fathered early this January, and they will all be staying with us now.

Our future feels uncertain in many ways and for many reasons. As we are able and comfortable, we will share more. For now, please know we are essentially done for the year. It feels crazy to say that in February when we had so many plans and dreams for 2026.

If you pray, we would deeply appreciate it. Comfort. Peace. And forgiveness — especially for myself.

Thank you for the support, encouragement, and love you’ve shown our family and our birds. It truly means more than you know. ❤️

Closing a chapter over here 🖤

We’ve decided to sell our cabinet incubator. What a journey this thing has taken us on — early mornings, late-night hatch checks, the excitement of first pips, the hard lessons, the wins, and the losses.

It taught us so much about patience, stewardship, and letting go of what we can’t control.

I’m incredibly thankful for the experience and everything we learned along the way. Every season has it's purpose.

As we step into whatever comes next, I’m praying for patience, wisdom, and clear guidance. Trusting that when one door closes, another opens in the right time.

Here’s to new chapters wherever the Lord sends us 🙏🏼

We’re starting to pull a few hens here and there to figure out which colors our pullets from last year are laying — and to see who’s officially started laying yet 👀🥚

Wellllll… this beauty surprised me this afternoon 💚🖤

#054 (Purple) laid this absolutely STUNNING olive 🫒🥚 and I am obsessed. The depth of this color is just unreal.

Nothing beats the excitement of finally matching eggs to hens! Backyard chicken life never gets old 💛
