On a Whim Farm Based in Virginia, I sell mini A2/A2 Jerseys and the occasional sport horse. I also sell the occasional sport horse.

I also share the triumphs and challenges of balancing a career in the corporate world, managing a farm, and my passion for riding/showing horses. This is my hobby farm and I focus on selling A2/A2 mini, midsize, and standard size Jerseys to be family milk cows and pets. Tours of the farm and animals visits are available by appointment only and at a fee. I have a full-time corporate job so drop-ins are not possible. I had knee surgery 3 weeks ago and am slowly easing back into riding already! Went on an easy 1.5 hr trail ride today and it felt so good to be back in the saddle. The ponies were great; Moose seemed happy and relaxed. I’m sure I will sleep well tonight.

Had knee surgery Tuesday and am up, walking, and started PT today 🙌🏼 Surgery went much better than anticipated and recovery should be a lot faster than initially projected. So thankful for my village of people helping with me with the farm, horses, driving, and keeping me fed 🩷

Took a quick roadtrip this week to see family and took Bad Beau and Marley. Bad Beau jumped out of the car at a truck stop while I was getting gas and ran around like a fool. But redeemed himself by being entertainment for the kids. Always fun to see family. It was a great week 🩷

Koda’s biopsy results came back positive for lymphoma, which is prevalent in Golden Retrievers. 💔

I just learned that as of 2025, IDEXX and other labs now offer special blood tests for early detection of lymphoma alongside other cancers, utilizing specific biomarkers in the blood. Some vets are including this blood test as part of annual wellness exams. I am eager to have the screening done for my other Goldens, Marley and Sunny, in an attempt to identify issues as early as possible. While the advances in science aren’t a guarantee for a positive outcome, it is a step in the right direction and can help identify issues early enough for a chance at treatment.

RIP my dear Koda, the sweetest and goofiest dog (2016-2026). Koda had a wonderful and healthy life until the last couple of weeks. I still lived in Fairfax when I got him, so he lived his first year in suburbia and then the rest of it on the farm. He was such a kind dog; the cats loved him and he was always tolerant of his siblings as puppies when they used him as a jungle gym. He also loved to accompany me on trips all over the east coast in those early years.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Dr Jones at Rose Hill Veterinary Practice for his professionalism, guidance, and compassion - it really is comforting when you have to make devastating decisions.
