After years of chasing the fall festival circuit, honey B hives is taking a little breather from the outdoor festivals this season. That means we won’t be at Missouri Town Fall Festival, Sugermound Arts and Crafts Festival, or Heritage Days in Warsaw.

We’re sorry to disappoint all the folks who look forward to seeing us at those fall markets—we’ll miss seeing you, too! The honey bees are still buzzing along, and we had an excellent nectar flow and harvest this year. We’re planning to add even more hives next year, so honey B hives is still growing! Their beekeeper has just discovered that outdoor festivals involve a lot of standing, hauling, and “Where did I put that?” So we’re giving these aging beekeeper knees a gentler fall schedule. The honey’s still sweet; the setup and takedown? Not quite as sweet as they used to be!

You can still find us every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Lee’s Summit Farmers Market. We’d love to see you there for honey, a hello, and perhaps a little sympathy for the knees.

Our girls (yes, all the worker bees are girls 🐝) absolutely crushed it this year—so much so that honey extraction is taking longer than normal 🍯! That’s why we won’t be at Lee’s Summit Farmers Market this Saturday, September 12.

The good news: we are extracting at Colonial Farms in Blue Springs—and everyone is welcome to come by and see how the magic 🧞‍♂️happens.

We’ll be back at the market on September 19 with delicious 2026 honey! Until then, stop by and say hi, we’ll even give you a taste.

From the extractor to the bucket

This is the part where the honey gets its little spa treatment before heading into the bucket!

I run my honey through an 800-micron filter—just enough to remove wax bits, bee parts, and other “straight-from-the-hive surprises,” while still allowing the good stuff through. For comparison, the largest pollen grains are generally around 50 microns, so the pollen—and all that natural goodness—passes right through.

So when someone says, “I want unfiltered honey,” I completely understand what they usually mean: minimally filtered honey.

Because truly unfiltered honey may also include:

Wax flakes
Bits of bees
Hive debris
The occasional piece of “Hive - detritus”—you know, whatever the bees may have picked up along the way
The goal isn’t to remove the good stuff. It’s simply to keep the honey delicious without adding extra crunch.

Pure honey, minimally filtered, and ready for the jar!

Honey extraction is happening today in the Colonial Farms community room—and you’re invited to come see how the sweet stuff gets from the hive to the jar!

I’ll be there until 1:30 p.m., extracting honey and answering questions. Stop by, say hello, and watch the bees’ hard work get harvested—no beekeeper suit required.

The photo shows two frames from the same box. The honey is the same, but the wax tells two very different stories. The frame on the right is about two years old and is still looking fairly fresh. The frame on the left is around four years old and has been used over and over by the bees, giving it that much darker color.

Think of it as the bee version of a well-loved cast-iron skillet: the more it’s used, the more character it develops. Or, in this case, the more “seasoned” the wax becomes.

Come take a look before the honey disappears!

🍯🐝 Honey Harvest Weekend is happening at Colonial Farms! 🐝🍯

Our friends at honey B hives are bringing the buzz to Colonial Farms this weekend! Come watch Bill harvest honey straight from the hives from our farm, and see the magic happen as he spins the honey right here in our Community Room.

📅 Saturday | 2–4 PM
📅 Sunday | 11 AM–2 PM
📍 Colonial Farms Community Room

Come see how honey goes from hive to jar, learn a little more about our hardworking pollinators, and—of course—taste some of the bees’ hard work! 🍯✨

And here’s a sweet little fun fact: did you know that the flavor and type of honey can change depending on when it’s harvested and what’s blooming around the hives? Our honey can be either Wildflower Honey or Blackberry Blossom Honey, depending on the flowers the bees have been visiting! 🌼🫐🐝

Can’t make it this weekend? No worries! Honey B Hives honey is available in our store all year long. 🍯

Come get a taste of the hive this weekend—we’ll see you there! 🐝

Life update with a little honey-side plot twist: Colonial Gardens has officially been purchased by Powell Gardens and is now known as Colonial Farms.

If you’ve ever asked, “So where are your hives?” the answer has been pretty much the same: Blue Springs, Colonial Farms (formerly Colonial Gardens).

But behind the scenes, we’ve also been doing the future-thing—building up for what’s next—and we’ve added about 20 new hives this year. That includes our very first four hives at Powell Gardens, where we’re now the official beekeeper—and yes, the official beekeeper at Colonial Farms too.

Same love of bees, new chapter, bigger hum. 🐝 (No emojis—just vibes.)
