Where does the term "bourbon" come from?

Google says: "The term "bourbon" comes from the French House of Bourbon, a famous European royal dynasty.

The exact inspiration for the name is uncertain, but some possible contenders include:

Bourbon County, Kentucky: In 1785, a Virginia county that included parts of Kentucky was named "Bourbon County" to show gratitude for French assistance during the American Revolution. The whiskey from Bourbon County became well-known for its high quality, and the name "bourbon" became more common for whiskey from the entire region.

Bourbon Street in New Orleans: In 1721, French engineer Adrien de Pauger named one of the streets in New Orleans "Rue Bourbon" after the French royal family ruling at the time.

The first known use of the word "bourbon" was in 1596. The name "bourbon" may not have been used for American whiskey until the 1850s, and the association with Bourbon County was not evident until the 1870s.

In 1964, the US Congress passed a resolution clarifying the requirements for an American whiskey to be called bourbon. "
