Feeding your bees sugar syrup is not recommending during cold periods. Bee candy can be placed on top of the frames above the bee cluster. This gives bees the food/energy needed to keep warm without breaking the cluster. This may be the one thing you can do to keep your hive alive. How I make my bee candy? 10lbs sugar, 1cup of warm water. Mix in a bowl (15 min.). Place on a bakers pan with parchment paper. Cut into desired portions. Place in the oven with the oven light on overnight. In the morning the bee candy will be ready to place on your hives.

Well, winter is just around the corner and I hope we have done everything to ensure our hive are equipped to survive the cold months. By lifting the back corner of the hive, we can determine the weight of honey reserves. If lite, bee candy (sugar & water cooked) can be placed on the top of the hive frames.
