Meet the Farm
Welcome to our Honey Dew Farm Page. We are Todd and Christy Plunkett, owners and founders of our small farm, Honey Dew Farm, LLC.
We had a little dream about 10 years ago of becoming homesteaders and creating a farm. Who knew during our journey that we would end up in Mentone, Alabama. We lived in North Texas the majority of our lives. There we got married, had 3 kids, and the typical busy life with careers. We found that way of life taxing and in 2011 Christy left her full time career to become a full time homeschooling mom. During this time, we transitioned our family to a slower life style. During our slow down we learned how much we really enjoyed animals, especially chickens, and learning to grow our own food. In 2015, we did something crazy. Todd retired from his career, and we sold everything we owned to go on a journey. We moved our family to Costa Rica and spent 2 years living abroad. We really had time to discover our authentic roots during our time there. We came back to the States for our young adult kids to settle into their life. Also, so we could get back to our roots of finding a small farm. Costa Rica left us with great experiences, memories, and life changing views.
In 2018, we were on the search for a new home in the Tennessee Valley Area, and by fate discovered this majestic town of Mentone, located on top of Lookout Mountain, Alabama. They say that the Mountain calls people here. We found this very true, as we had never visited Mentone before. The first and only home we looked at on our search is now Honey Dew Farm. We fell in love with it the moment we saw it and purchased it. Mentone is refreshing, and the eclectic community has so much talent packed in a small town! We really are lucky to call this home!
This will be our first season to garden veggies, fruit, home grown flowers and herbs. In addition, we have a love for chickens. Our flock is growing each season to provide an abundance of farm fresh eggs. This season we will also establish our first colony of honey bees. Honey products will be coming spring/summer of 2020, as we will respect our bees need to work and store their own food first.
