I'm on a hunt to see if any of my live herd or frozen bull semen (Collafirth Viking, Hengae Fearsome, St. Trinians Balou, St. Trinians Agamemnon or Ocraquoy Haldor have A2/A2 genetics). Have any members done the test for beta-casein on their herds? The test that determines A2/A2 milk from the cows? I'll be sending tail hairs in for a member of my herd Red Rock very soon but was wondering if anyone here has done it yet in Europe. ~Dan

Will confirm with a blood test but Brooke seems to be pregnant...she was AI'd with Ocraquoy Haldor...should be a beautiful calf...she's the only chocolate-colored heifer I have.

Nope, either my AI tech made a mistake or she lost the calf somewhere along the way.......Athena, one of the original 3 born in 2018 is pregnant with a calf from St Trinian Agamemnon and is due in September.

Today we have a confirmed pregnancy of 1st generation Texas heifer, Red Rock Athena, and sire St Trinians Agamemnon using AI. She was confirmed using ultrasound. Her due date is September 11, 2021. If we can get some farm help after she calves, we'd really like to turn her into a milking cow and ultimately make some Shetland cheese. We also have our last embryo transfer calf about to be born to her surrogate mother. I'm watching her morning and night in anticipation of another healthy Shetland calf.

Synchronizing estrus now to get the last 4 open cows to show heat. Takes going out several times a day to check on them as the highest pregnancy rates were obtained for breedings that were 4 to 16 hours after the onset of heat or first standing event. Estruvate shot was given Sunday afternoon 5/24, I should see signs of heat anytime now.🙂

Either Ingrid or Olga will be getting the last embryo I have (Balou/Bramble pairing) I'm probably going to use frozen semen from Apollo Magnus for the other. Anabella showed signs that heat came and went so she's likely out of the running for this round. Waiting on Athena to show heat and she will be getting AI'd with St Trinians Agamemnon pictured here.

I'm happy to report that the first Shetland in the U.S., Apollo Magnus, has found a new home with an awesome family. Nick Latham and his oldest daughters came out and picked him up, taking him home to be a part of their sustainable homestead operations. I'm sure he will make an excellent herd sire and continue his legacy in the best of company. Nick and I look forward to working together in pursuing many of the same goals and ideals in saving the soil with beneficial practices using humane methods and the right kind of livestock.

Viewer Discretion Advised - Live birth of Shetland calf. Momma cow managed to wait for me to get home from a Thanksgiving Dinner. It's cold and wet today so I hand carried some clean hay over to the spot in the woods where mother "Olga" was. No sooner did I get the hay put down and her water bag popped out and broke. Less than an hour later, this little guy was born, half an hour later, he was up nursing. Best I can tell in the dark, this little guy is solid black with white accents.
