The first harvest of burgundy okra this season!!🌱

Look at these beautiful little pods! I’m so excited to test this one out for dinner tonight - first taste of what’s to come this season.

It won’t be long until we have burgundy okra at the market, so keep your eyes out! This variety is stunning with its deep purple color and tender pods when picked young like this.

Love those “first harvest” moments - all the anticipation and care finally paying off. Can’t wait to share these beauties with you all soon!

**Supporting Our Community Through Local Food 🌱**

With changes happening in our local food landscape, we’re reminded how important it is for farmers to support our community and each other.

At Solum Bonum Farm, we use low intervention and organic approaches - working with nature to grow food that nourishes our neighbors. These tomatoes are thriving in our high tunnel, while many other plants grow in our outdoor fields! Everything grows in natural soil amended with organic materials. We bring in birds, plant for beneficial insects, and preserve the soil microbiome.

Find us at Damascus Farmers Market Thursdays and Abingdon Tuesdays (Saturdays coming soon!). We’re also gauging interest in farm-direct sales for advance orders - let us know in the comments!

**Thanks to everyone who came out to the Damascus Farmers Market yesterday! 🌿**

What a beautiful day it was! Had so much fun chatting with everyone and hope some of our vegetables make it to your dinner tables this weekend.

We even had a super cool band come and do a jam session - I love our little town and the community spirit that makes these markets so special!

**For everyone who asked about cucumbers at market! 🥒**

They’re on the way! I’ve got Marketmore, Beit Alpha, Armenian, Xylangouro, and Mexican gherkins growing strong right now.

Here’s more about what’s coming:

**Marketmore** - Classic slicing cucumber, crisp and refreshing, perfect for salads

**Beit Alpha** - Small, sweet, thin-skinned variety that’s perfect for snacking

**Armenian** - Acts like a cucumber but actually a melon! Long, ridged, mild flavor, great fresh or pickled

**Xylangouro** - From the Greek island of Chios, this cucumber-melon has silky, sweet flesh that never turns bitter and thrives in heat

**Mexican gherkins** - Tiny, adorable grape-sized cucumbers with a tangy crunch, perfect for pickling or snacking

Can’t wait to start bringing these to market in the coming weeks.

**Tiny treasures in the field! 🥦**

Found these thumbnail-sized broccoli heads forming today - so exciting to see them developing! Can't wait to watch these little guys grow over the next few weeks.

It's been misty and rainy all day, so no soil work happening. Perfect weather for tending to other farm tasks and getting organized instead. Sometimes the weather makes the schedule for you!

Love seeing the progress even on the quiet, drizzly days. These little heads are going to be beautiful when they're ready.
