This…..you should know where your beef comes from! Bring back Country of Origin labeling!

Importing cheaper beef doesn't create more cattle.

Our U.S. cattle herd is already incredibly low. If we want more American beef and lower prices long-term, we need to give ranchers a reason to rebuild that herd.

And rebuilding a herd takes YEARS.

A rancher can retain a heifer today, spend thousands developing her, breed her, wait for her to have a calf… and we're talking about a couple years before that decision turns into more beef.

So if we're asking ranchers to retain thousands of heifers and invest all that money into rebuilding the herd, but then bring in cheaper imported beef that puts downward pressure on cattle prices…

Why would that encourage anyone to expand?

It could actually have the opposite effect.

I don't think the answer is simply “don't import beef.”

I think we need to fix the problem at the ranch level too.

Bring back MCOOL — Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling.

If consumers want to buy American beef, they should be able to easily tell whether that beef was born, raised and finished here or imported from somewhere else.

Let Americans choose.

And if we want cheaper beef long-term, let's build a bigger American herd instead of putting a bandaid over the shortage.

Support the American rancher.
Give consumers the information to choose American beef
And make rebuilding the U.S. cattle herd worth the investment.
And lastly.... supporting American agriculture doesn't have to be political as its being made to be.

This is not how we make beef affordable… giving money to other countries, tariff free and that somehow helps American farmers rebuild their herd and keep seed stock? What would be replacement stock is usually sold to pay for farm costs. But somehow, driving the cost farmers get for beef, will make them want to keep them? Nope.

Trump said it’s due to tariffs that the American cattle farmer is doing well for the first time in 20 years. Can we also mention, fertilizer is over 3X what it was a few years ago, seed is doubled, fuel is high and consumers are buying less due to EVERYTHING ELSE costing more for the everyday working class American and daily necessities are pricing a lot of people out of a healthy diet.
Guess who is eating the cost? Your Farmers and ranchers. It’s the only job where you buy all your necessities at full price, and sell your product at wholesale.
Guess who is making money with this? The 4 big meatpackers. There is no guarantee they pass along those savings to consumers, and they likely won’t.
So let’s instead import a bunch of 3rd world country beef, and since we STILL DONT HAVE country of origin labeling, the average consumer will think they are buying a good product and it’s far from it. I wouldn’t feed it to my dog. This is also how we import cattle diseases and parasites, that will affect our domestic cattle and we will be back to sky high prices again, except then we won’t have enough beef to meet demand since they will at that point shutdown imports of any foreign beef. It’s the same concept of printing money to combat inflation. IT WONT WORK. What it will do, is cause yet more farmers and ranchers to close their doors, because it’s not worth it.

What can you do? BUY LOCAL!!!! Doesn’t have to be from us, but support your local rancher. That’s how we combat this. And be vocal. Contact your senators and congressman, and let them know how you feel.
