We have been super busy this winter, hense the lack of posts.

Our hens 🐔 have been pretty cold this winter and we did lose one two weeks ago 🪦 . Although we still have 33 of them, they are just not able to keep up with producing eggs. I know eggs 🥚 are a hot commodity right now but we can only sell what we get. And most of the time we dont even have eggs for ourselves. 🫣

We currently have a wait list for our eggs. Please be patient as we work through the last few weeks of winter. Hoping 🙏 production picks up soon.

Another busy day here. So grateful to have my mom help us with all of our crazy baking adventures.

Today we made 20 butter braids for the freezer. We used fresher apples for some and then the others were assorted fruit pie flavors.

After making 90 pies in three days, we decided to bake one of them for ourselves. Oh my goodness, it is delicious! If you didn’t place your order, you definitely missed out. Keep your eyes peeled for next apple season when we make more.

Successful weekend over here at the Sturtevant Household!

Friday night we made 14 pints of spicy salsa.

Saturday, we canned 8 jars (4 hot and 4dill) refrigerator pickles….. thanks Tina for the recipe. Peyton and Kasey also came over to help us pick our first batch of apples.

Today we washed, quartered, then chopped, pressed, cooked and water bathed said apples. This was a nine hour process but so worth it for the 9 gallons of apple cider that we ended up with. Won’t last long in our house. And fun fact, our apple cider is 💯 juice from the apples. No additional sugars or additives. Finally, we finished off the weekend with ice cream from the Darien Ice Cream Shoppe.

In just a couple of short weeks, we will begin our apple pie season. If you would like to reserve a pie or two please let Eric or myself know and we will add you to the list. $15 a 🥧 this year. Worth every penny, I promise!

Well, we had a free weekend which is almost unheard of. So how do we fill that weekend? Canning for 14 hours of course! We have made just over 50 jars of relish (sweet relish, sweet heat, seeet hot pepper relish) and 13 quarts and 11 1/2 pints of spaghetti sauce. On top of that, we made an enormous batch of homemade sloppy joes for the fire department meeting tonight.
Next weekend, we hope to start on apple cider.

Although it is all so exhausting, we have found the reward in it too. Now, if only our chickens could keep up with us 🤣.

We want to start off by saying Thank you to everyone who has supported our chicken farm and bought eggs from us.

With that being said, we have so much support that the demand is higher than the amount of eggs that our ladies can produce. We are asking for patience as we navigate through this. If you reach out for eggs, please know that we very rarely have more than 1 or 2 dozen on hand. They are going out the door super fast. We will continue to sell what we can. We do have 10 more chickens that should start laying later this fall early winter. That should help us out a little bit too.
