We got our first shipment of 65,000 pounds of cracked hazelnut shells last week.
Once the ground is a little more solid, I’ll be spreading the shells onto the Willamette orchard floor.

We finished our 2025 harvest on Saturday late afternoon before the recent storms started raining. We are glad to finish up with a good relatively large harvest in mostly clean and dry conditions.

Monday we will clean all the equipment and get it back into the shop ready for next year.

We just finished the second pick of the Sacajawea orchard. Tomorrow we will be re-sweeping the Willamette orchard and start the second pick on Thursday.

Unfortunately, this time of year we have to work around rainstorms. It is supposedly going to rain Thursday night through the following Wednesday. If rain continues after that, it may end the rest of harvest for us. Mud and harvest do not mix well.

Updates 10/08/25
Latest forecast is for at least 8 days of rain beginning Thursday late night. Not much each day but the total is around 2”.

Well we worked into Sunday evening until 7 pm hoping to get our first pick done before the week long rainstorms that were predicted to begin. We got about 70 of 72 acres done. We were unable to finish about an acre and a half of the Lewis orchard.

Fortunately the amount of precipitation was highly over estimated now estimated to dump only about .7” through Thursday. We will finish the Lewis orchard this weekend and start our second harvest on Monday.

After two weeks of 10-12 hour days 6 days per week harvesting nuts, this wet week is actually a welcomed time to recharge. The second pick will be much easier providing we get no surprises .

Attached are a few random pictures from both the Willamette harvest as well as the Lewis harvest.

We finished up of our first week of harvest on Saturday. We harvested 49 totes in the first pick of our 14 acre Sacajawea orchard and 63 totes in the first 16 of 40 acres of Willamettes. We took today off because of the weekend rain but hope to harvest the first pick of the remaining Willamette orchard as well as our 16 acre Lewis orchard by the predicted weekend rain storm.

We are a geriatric crew, and harvest about 8 acres a day.

We are looking to hire a pruning tower operator beginning December 1st, 2025 until approximately May 1st, 2026. The operator will be using a Prune-Rite 20' tall tower. Experience on a pruning tower is desired but we are willing to train the right individual. Experience pruning trees is required. The job could likely turn into a yearly seasonal position and length of employment could extend into the summer.

Applicants must not be scared of heights or working during light rainfall or chilly winter days.

PM or contact me via email with question or to set-up an on-site interview.

I really think the Oregon Hazelnut Industry will have a great harvest and with all the problems in Turkey and Italy I assume we will have record prices as well. We’ll see if the Bargaining Association will truly represent the Oregon growers financial best interests this year.

This is a recent photo from our Sacajawea orchard.
