Today I set out with one purpose—to forage more mimosa bark.

The tree had healed beautifully since the last harvest, and it reminded me of something so powerful… God designed trees much like He designed our own bodies—with an incredible ability to repair, restore, and heal when properly cared for.

While gathering from the mimosa, I was also blessed to find two clusters of elderflower. The clusters were small and likely would not have produced much fruit as elderberries, so I felt led to harvest them now. Elderflower has long been valued for immune support, especially during seasonal illness, and I’m excited to dry them for tea for my littles.

Mimosa itself is such a gift—known for nervous system support, emotional grounding, and helping calm the body during stress. Its bark has traditionally been used to support emotional wellness, restful sleep, and inflammation.

But the absolute gem of the day… was something I never expected.

A sweetgum tree had fallen in the storm.

And immediately I knew this was no accident.

Sweetgum is a powerhouse of provision:
• The green gum balls are prized for anti-inflammatory, immune-supportive, and respiratory benefits
• The leaves offer gentle skin-soothing and tissue-calming support
• The bark is rich in astringent, tissue-supportive properties and has traditionally been used for wound and inflammation support

What looked like storm damage became unexpected provision.

And here’s the part that wrecked me.

Had I not found that sweetgum tree, I would have had no reason to stop at the store for supplies to start a tincture.

And had I not stopped at that store… I would not have met the cashier I was able to pray for today.

That moment reminded me that God’s hand is in the details.

Sometimes we think we’re walking toward one purpose, while God is orchestrating something much bigger behind the scenes.

I thought I was going to gather bark.

God was arranging healing, provision, and a divine appointment.

Nothing is wasted in His hands.
Not storms.
Not detours.
Not delays.

All of it can be used for His glory if we’re willing to pay attention.

Today was a beautiful reminder that when we walk with Him, even the unexpected becomes sacred.

To God be the glory.

Although healthcare providers are commonly my last resort and often used for diagnostic purposes, if I can manage an issue from home, I usually will. That said, I don’t discredit their knowledge or the wisdom God gave them when their expertise is necessary.

I absolutely adore our little pediatrician — her first approach is often homeopathic as well, because yes… they do exist. šŸ˜‚

So the moral of this is: if I get hit by a car, I’m not crawling to my kitchen to make tea, okay? 🤣

🦷 Baking Soda
Why it’s used:
* Helps neutralize acids in the mouth.
* Supports a healthier oral pH.
* Gently helps remove surface stains.
🪨 Bentonite Clay
Why it’s used:
* Acts as a gentle cleanser.
* Has a natural ability to bind to impurities and debris.
* Provides trace minerals.

šŸ¤ Calcium Carbonate
Why it’s used:
* Serves as a gentle polishing agent.
* Provides a source of calcium.
šŸ¬ Xylitol
Why it’s used:
* Natural sweetener that bacteria cannot use as food.
🄄 Coconut Oil
Why it’s used:
* Acts as the base that holds the paste together.
* Contains compounds with antimicrobial properties.
🌿 Peppermint Oil
Why it’s used:
* Flavor and freshness.
tastes.
🌰 Clove Powder
Why it’s used:
* Traditional oral care ingredient.

When manuka was added, and the recipe was split for multiple people to use, along with how it was applied to the toothbrush itself minimized shelf life & contamination issues, but keep in mind moisture & double dipping increases these issues (which is why I kept it out of this batch) but I put food for thought here, if you are thinking of adding and things I mentioned that others may use, what you see here is what I will use moving forward🄰
The only ingredient I may add in the future is Hydroxyapatite upon future purity research šŸ”¬
šŸ§‚ Salt

Benefits
* Mild antibacterial properties
* Can help reduce swelling in irritated gums
* Traditionally used in salt-water rinses for sore gums

Potential downsides

* Can make the paste more abrasive, depending on how fine it is
* May sting sensitive or inflamed gum tissue
* Too much can make the toothpaste unpleasant and drying

Shelf life
* Salt generally does not shorten shelf life. In fact, it can help inhibit microbial growth.

šŸÆ Manuka Honey

Benefits
* Known for antibacterial activity
* May soothe irritated oral tissues
* Has been studied for helping support healing in certain oral conditions

Potential downsides
* It’s still a sugar-containing substance, so I would be cautious about leaving it on teeth for long periods.
* Can make the toothpaste sticky and harder to formulate.
* May increase the likelihood of microbial growth if water gets introduced into the product.

Shelf life
* Pure honey itself stores well, but adding it to a homemade toothpaste can complicate preservation, especially if your recipe contains water or if moisture is introduced during use.
