Our Donors get out of sync with our spring calving program, so we put them into a small fall calving group. All these babies weighed under 5% of mothers weight which is crazy good. We have always bred for easy birth however these babies were sired by a Lundgren bull that is the easiest calving bull of any breed we have never used, including Angus. When used on heifers it’s very common to get 60 lb. calves out of LCR Red Hawk. We really don’t want too small of calves, but these little guys grow like crazy and are scale busters at weaning. All these cows are double bred Ranger.

In the Cattle Industry it seems way too common for breeders to promote their cattle as “one size fits all” I am thinking about this because we went miles today trying to find cows and took this pic when we finally found a few. If these ladies ever tasted silage they would probably pass out. Our cattle run on rugged Montana range year-round with no shelter ever. I know that a dairy cow would die in a month trying to survive on this range. I wonder how compatible beef genetics are when they are selected for beef production in an area where there are dairy cows grazing across the fence. Seems like these are unproven genetics for a range area like ours. Likewise, when a genetic line is developed over decades of selecting for range efficiency, they are basically unproven genetics for areas of readily available feedstuffs such as the East and Midwest.
I don’t have an answer other than to say that our genetic development should match the environment we serve.

This 6-month-old triple linebred Ranger x Maybelien stud is the thickest calf we have ever raised. His pay weight is incredible. When his heavy linebred genetics are mated to unrelated females the results will be explosive. This is the kind to build a program around.

J Bar Stenberg Ranch
This is the mother of 4055!
MAYBELIEN 055 Registration # QF202587. This young lady has it all. This cow is the best bloodline we have. She is a double bred Ranger out of a Maybelien flush daughter. Ranger is the best maternal line we have ever used plus he has incredible performance. When we linebred Ranger the cattle kept getting better which I consider a herd bulls true test. This picture is last year as a 23-month-old heifer. The calf is sired by a white bull.

Stenberg Ranger 3A is the $42,000. Red Charolais that we imported in 2012. He is the most proven and influential bull in America. Siring over 2,000 progeny. He was used extensively on range herds siring only red or black calves. His daughters are phenominal, feminine, high milking, and easy keeping. His sons have been top perfomers in National Bull tests and are proving themselves in multiple herds arcross North America. The term "Rangers Lead The Way" truely decribes this legendary bull.
