This filter scored a 9 for setup thanks to its quick and simple installation. We had no compatibility issues and experienced no leaks during testing. Maintenance scored even higher at 9.5, with just one cartridge to replace and a low operating cost of only 3.4 cents per gallon.

We tested hard water at 250 ppm before filtration and 251 ppm after. The results showed virtually no change, confirming what we often see with shower filters—they generally can't remove the calcium and magnesium that cause hard water.

Our testing showed mixed results for disinfection byproducts (DBPs). Some compounds decreased, others increased, making it difficult to conclude that the filter provided meaningful DBP reduction.

The Hello Klean Shower Filter is an inline filter that’s claimed to reduce “+90% of chlorine, heavy metals and other impurities”. It uses a blend of KDF, calcium sulfite, ceramic beads, and activated carbon media to “protect hair and skin with better water”. We tested the filter using chlorinated city water to see how effectively it could reduce the shower contaminants we were concerned about.

We’ve reviewed over a dozen shower filters so far, and this Hello Klean model was one of the poorest performing, with an overall weighted score of 7.39 You’ll find our results and observations in this review.
