The Afina shower filter scored 8.02 overall, with excellent chlorine reduction, easy setup, and simple maintenance. However, it didn't meaningfully reduce disinfection byproducts or water hardness, and it lacks official performance certification. Here's why the full test results matter!

The Afina shower filter claims to target chlorine, heavy metals, and unwanted minerals. But how does it perform in real-world conditions? I tested it with chlorinated water to see what the data says about chlorine, disinfection byproducts, and water hardness.

Dry skin, rough hair, and that sticky feeling after showering? Some products use hard water claims to attract buyers, but do they actually treat water hardness? Know what the product can really do before you buy!

I tested the Afina shower head to see how it handled disinfection byproducts (DBPs). The results? All 3 DBPs measured actually increased after filtration. 😳 Here's what the water tests showed.

If you’ve heard of LifeStraw already, it’s probably for its namesake: the LifeStraw Water Filter Straw, which lets you drink from natural, untreated water sources outdoors. The company has since ventured into producing filters for indoor use, too, including the LifeStraw home water filter pitcher, with a twist: it’s apparently the “only filter pitcher that removes bacteria, parasites, and microplastics”, along with 30+ other contaminants.

I lab tested the LifeStraw home water filter pitcher. See my first party data and insights: contaminant reduction, filtration rate, and more.

The Afina shower filter costs $129 upfront, but the replacement filters can add up! 💧 I tested it with chlorinated water in Colorado and broke down the long-term costs. Is it worth it? Here's what you should know before buying.

Is the Afina shower head worth it? 🚿 It performed well at reducing chlorine, but it may not be the best choice if you have hard water or want third-party certification. And if you're looking for broader filtration, especially for DBPs, there are better options to consider.

The Afina shower filter showed impressive results for chlorine, reducing it from 1.68 ppm to just 0.02 ppm — nearly a 99% reduction! 🚿

But what about hard water? The reading stayed almost exactly the same, from 250 ppm to 251 ppm.

The takeaway? Great chlorine reduction, but no real water softening. Here's what our test revealed!

ZeroWater products are famously marketed to remove 99.9% of total dissolved solids (TDS), something that might have piqued your interest if you’ve been considering buying a reverse osmosis system.

There’s no denying the appeal of a water filter that can apparently perform similarly to RO, purifying your water at a fraction of the upfront cost. But how does ZeroWater actually compare to reverse osmosis? We’ve tested the Legacy ZeroWater and the Culligan ZeroWater filters, along with many of the most popular RO systems, and we’re drawing on our own test data for a detailed comparison of ZeroWater vs reverse osmosis.

Good to Know: The Legacy ZeroWater is ZeroWater’s original water filter pitcher product. The Culligan ZeroWater is the new-and-improved model with several design differences. Both pitchers are available to buy online. We think they use the same filtration media, but due to design differences, the old and new filters are not interchangeable.

Compare ZeroWater vs reverse osmosis for cost, filtration, water waste, filter life, and contaminant reduction using real-world testing data.

iSpring rates this RO system at 75 GPD, but my real-world test produced about 35 GPD. That’s less than half the claimed rate.
