When I set out to bring the Brightside Book Bus to life, I knew I wanted a brand that felt like a hug from your favorite childhood storytime reader. I started with a nostalgic ’80s‑inspired palette — sunshine yellow, playful red‑orange, bright sky blue, leafy green and creamy whites — because nothing says joy and imagination like bold, high‑contrast color! ☀️🌈
From there, I sketched a bus that evoked the same nostalgic feelings: rounded and expressive, and most importantly hand drawn like your favorite old storybooks. I played with movement lines and rainbow arcs, refined the typeface to be bold and friendly. Every detail was a chance to invite kids onto the bus and into a world of stories.
Along the way, I explored different rainbow arcs (stacked books? rising suns?), tweaked features for maximum charm, and experimented with typefaces to nail that perfect storybook vibe. Watching it all come together — from color chips to a smiling bus mascot ready for sticker duty — reminded me why I love what I do: bringing stories (and good) into the world in the most joyful, inclusive way possible.
