If its locally crafted, and you’re drinking it, we’re talking about it. Buy Local, Drink Local, Support Local. Northeast Ohio Craft Brewery News is your one stop shop for all the beer news in our part of the state. We don't make the news (the breweries, cideries, meaderies, bottle shops, and festival organizers do), and we rarely report original content ourselves. What we DO do is curate, and aggr

egate it in one place so you don't have to check several different sources. We regularly scour brewery pages so you don't have to. We regularly search for and post the latest news from the beer gurus around the state, including Rick Armon at the Akron Beacon Journal and Ohio.com, Marc Bona at Cleveland.com, The Gnarly Gnome, Columbus Business First, Mahoning Valley Flight Crew, and more. What we also do:

* Keep you Up to Date on Beer Festivals happening in the area ()check our "Events Page" regularly to stay up to date)
* Post info on beer pairing dinners and tasting events
* Post New Beer Alerts
* Post on new breweries opening in your area as well as regular updates on their build out and licensing progress, with ETAs for Grand Openings
* Giveaways, giveaways, giveaways -- we have the best partners in the industry who have offered up branded swag, growlers, stickers, and gift cards to giveaway

Posts happen daily at 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, and 9pm, so you know when to check your newsfeed, because we know Facebook's complex algorithms sometimes make it harder for you to see new things from us. You can also click "follow" and set us to "See Posts First" so you don't miss anything. We'll break from this schedule periodically to post "breaking news" if it warrants. We also have a website, and an Instagram Feed, so feel free to follow those. Weekly or bi-weekly brewer interviews are coming soon, as well as other new features. Bottom line is we are passionate and tireless supporters of the local industry and we want you to be too. We want you to whenever possible, and get out of your comfort zone. We want you to (responsibly) go explore a new brewery you never knew existed, and support small local crafters of fine beverages. Please spread the word!

In midtown Cleveland, just five minutes from Cleveland Clinic, sits Black Frog Brewery, one of C-Town’s newest entrants. The E 66th brewery is the first black-owned brewery in Cleveland. Founded by Christopher Harris in Toledo more than a decade ago, the original Toledo location recently closed as Harris has more or less retired and left the brand and the brewing in the hands of his son. And judging by the beers, the future is in good hands.

Black Frog shares space with Pearl’s Kitchen , headed up by Chef Tiwanna Scott-Williams, which serves up a complementary menu of inspired comfort classics including a blacked salmon BLT, Fish and Chips, the Black Frog Burger, and Chicken and Waffles. I wish I wasn’t so full from lunch, because Chicken and Waffles is my kryptonite. Would pair perfectly with Granny’s Sweet Potato Porter. First time here, and since I don’t have room in my belly for food, I guess that means imma have to come back again. Twist my arm.

Have you been to Black Frog? Drop your favorite Black Frog beer 👇

vibes on the patio at a packed Collision Bend Brewing Company. Lunch sharing some plates with two of my three siblings. The third, my brother Brian, is in Cleveland Clinic and we came up to spend the day with him while he undergoes a battery of tests and gets treatment at the neurological step down unit. Getting the best care in the world. Hoping he can get out soon and enjoy a patio day with the rest of his sibs. We missed him at lunch but glad to be with him right now. Hopefully you are spending the first day of summer with your loved ones and making meaningful memories. Every day is precious. Cheers, NEO.

Some breweries have always held a special place in our hearts, and Akronym Brewing is definitely one of them.

Not only have they been longtime supporters of NEOCBN, but back in 2020 they took one of our homebrew recipes and scaled it up into the beer that eventually became their popular Sublime Gose, and brewing that first batch with brewer Shawn Adams is a core memory in our craft beer journey.

This weekend Akron’s brewery celebrates another trip around the sun with a strong tap list that includes Into the Wood Batch #5, Bag of Hammers Barleywine, Maple BBA Tetralogy, and DEAL Double NEIPA, along with live bluegrass from Lane Harper on the patio Friday evening.

If you’ve never made the trip to Akronym, their birthday weekend is a pretty good excuse to change that. Happy Birthday to the Akronym team, and thanks for everything you’ve done for Northeast Ohio craft beer. We’re glad you’re back.

Are you heading to Akronym to celebrate their birthday this weekend? TAG a friend who should make the trip downtown with you.

A shandy is a refreshing, low-alcohol cocktail made by mixing beer with a non-alcoholic, citrusy mixer like lemonade, lemon-lime soda, or ginger ale, typically in a 50/50 ratio. It's a simple, popular drink, especially in summer, that's more approachable than beer alone, often using a light lager as the base. Variations exist, such as the "Radler," which is similar but often uses fruit juice, and other versions can incorporate different spirits or juices.

ICYMI: Unplugged Brewing Co. has been, well….. unplugged.

The Chronicle-Telegram has been reporting this week that the Elyria brewery has been operating without a liquor license since 2023. An article yesterday stated that the brewery applied for annual renewal of their license in October of ‘23, but the application was rejected due to non-payment of back taxes in excess of $24,000. The premises were raided recently under a search warrant and 200 kegs of illegally manufactured beer were seized.

The brewery remains closed and there’s been no official statement made on their social media page, and owners did not return The Chronicle-Telegram’s request for comment.

ICYMI-Cove W Winery co-owner Dave Wilson, was brutally assaulted last Friday night by a patron. We have not confirmed the full story but from what we’ve heard through back channels it sounds like he was trying to stop the patron or patrons from taking beer onto a boat illegally. He is currently hospitalized and according to the Deerfield winery’s social media page, recovering, but with significant brain swelling and experiencing issues with cognition and speech that will require a lengthy rehabilitation. Anyone with any information, including photos or video from that evening, is asked to contact the winery privately through their page.

NEOCBN is praying for Dave’s speedy and full recovery and hoping for the apprehension of the perpetrator(s) and justice to be served for this act of senseless violence. The craft community, whether it’s craft beer or wine, is extraordinarily welcoming and friendly; bar fights and violence inside of taprooms / tasting rooms is extraordinarily rare. This is not who we are and we are sorry this was brought to Cove W’s Berlin Lake shores and hope nothing like this happens to an owner, employee, or customer of one of these establishments again.

Get well soon Dave. We are all pulling for you.
