A follow up on the Cessac and Smith genome sequencing that has proven that both varieties are genetically identical. Thanks to Pro Fig for getting the sequencing done and posting the results.

Whole-genome sequencing of 49 fig accessions finds Cessac and Smith to be one clonal genotype: 1 clean fixed difference across 4,640,636 comparable positions, all 271 of 271 1 Mb windows sharing both haplotypes, and agreement from an independent variant caller.

Orchard Update 6/14/2026. Everything is looking pretty good here and I had to do a speed update in a thunderstorm! The grow out cuttings are all starting to take off and the trees are really filling out nicely!
