RIP Pearl
This doe was nothing special to most people, but she was one of our first kids born when we started our operation.

While just a commercial doe with no fancy pedigree she produced some of the biggest widest kids. We are thankful to have retained NR24 Ruby Wrangler out of her!

This poor girl got listeria two springs ago, and since then her mouth has been slightly off. She was able to eat and clean her kids perfectly fine. We had seen her twice before choke on her cud and a big chunk of soft hay. With a little cough, she was able to work through it.

When we went out to feed last night, we found her dead with foam out of her nose and mouth. Perfectly healthy in the morning. Our best guess, along with the vets, is that she choked due to her mouth not being aligned 100%.

She was not the prettiest doe, not even our favorite 90% of the time, as she was a major escape artist, but she represented a milestone for us. Her genetics will live on in her daughter Ruby!

This big-bodied January-born percentage doe is looking for a new herd. She will add bone, topline, and hair! She was just pulled from the pen, given a bath, and a little trim.

She is sired by HHH4U BIG MAN’S PISTOL
Her dam is a bred-and-owned commercial doe that has been with us for several years. She has kidded unassisted each time and raised strong kids. We have already retained several of her offspring.

We had a great time out with some even better people! We only took two goats for simplicity, as our newest member of the family tagged along for his first goat show!
In true farm-kid fashion, he had his diaper changed just about anywhere. 😂🫣 Goat stand, fitting mat, etc.

She did not make the cut out of 24 animals. The judge said, “She was my next pick; she has all the components; she just needs a little more.” We were not upset and appreciated the feedback, as she is only 2 weeks into her age group. She has lots of time to mature and fill out.

We were very pleased with this buck; he was the youngest in his class, having just aged up, and he held his own without standing out in size. He really keeps getting better the older he gets.

It was good to get out to our first show of the season and catch up with our goat friends!

We only brought three animals to make life simple, as showing 35 weeks pregnant comes with its own challenges. 😆

🧬HHH4U BIG MAN’S PISTOL is always a joy to show with his puppy dog personality and received two more points, making his lifetime personal points 70, with only ever attending five shows. We are looking to add progeny points this year as we grow out his first group of kids.

🧬NR24 FROSTBITTEN LEAD LADY (Pistol’s Doeling) did well for being a little green yet, receiving compliments about her muscling and having lots of capacity.

In the 3-6-month-old fullblood doe class, she placed 5th out of 15 in show 2 and 6th out of 12 in show 3. Really excited to watch her grow out!

🧬NR24 BACKED BY BRASS (Pistol’s Buckling) did well in his 3-6 mo old Fullblood Buck class, receiving compliments on his masculinity and head set. He placed 4th out of 10 in Show 1, 6 out of 10 in Show 2, and 7th out of 9 in Show 3.
