About five years ago, the Goehring family purchased Charlotte as a bred heifer in our Top 5 Sale. They showed her as a cow/calf pair, and since then, our families have had the opportunity to share a partnership with her. Alfred was born from her very first flush, and as Sawyer has said from the beginning, he’s been “a good boy.”
We’ve had so much fun raising Alfred and taking him on this journey—from the prestigious Iowa Governor’s Steer Show to multiple shows throughout the spring. He’s been a fun calf to have around, and we’re certainly going to miss seeing him around the farm.
But this experience has been about so much more than raising and showing a steer. It has been an incredible opportunity for Sawyer, too.
We’ve bragged on Sawyer many times before, from the moment Sawyer found out he would be representing District 20, he has worked his tail off. He personally visited businesses to explain what he was raising funds for, went to restaurants and dug through their pop cans to collect pop tabs, and found countless other ways to raise money and awareness for this cause. He did all of this while still going to school, working with his animals and, most importantly, just being a good kid. We’re pretty sure he was a little bummed not to receive the Governor’s Community Hero Award, (even though he did receive a special shout-out), he certainly won in our eyes. We couldn’t be more proud of the work ethic, kindness and determination he has shown throughout this entire experience.
We also want to give a huge thank-you to the Goehring family for letting us go along for the ride with them. It takes an incredible amount of time, work and commitment (and money 🤪)to raise a cow like Charlotte and then a calf like Alfred. We are so thankful they have been loyal customers, partners and, most importantly, friends. We have truly enjoyed this experience, and yesterday is a day we won’t forget anytime soon.
Maybe someday we’ll be lucky enough to have one of our own boys experience something like this. Until then, we’ll be grateful for the opportunity Sawyer had, the memories we’ve made and the people who made it possible.
FINALLY thank you to all of our friends, family, customers and everyone who donated, liked, shared his posts, cheered him on or supported Sawyer in any way along the way. It truly takes a village, and Sawyer has one heck of a village behind him. ❤️
